Judith Lucy said she suffered a head injury nine days after her cancer diagnosis.

In an Instagram post, the 58-year-old comedian said she hit her head on a small table after combining sleeping pills and alcohol while “coping” with the diagnosis, leaving her with a cut temple and a bruised eye.

“So I wanted to own the fact that while I’m currently doing okay with the cancer situation (I have no doubt that the roller coaster of emotions will continue) this is a photo from an ‘event’ that happened nine days after my diagnosis,” Lucy captioned the post.

“It looks a little like my doctor said, ‘You have cancer’, and then I decided to punch myself in the face. Not an unreasonable response but it’s actually the result of combining booze and sleeping pills and then doing the tango with a small table.”

Unsurprisingly, the comedian was able to find the humour in the situation.

“When my surgeon removed the bandage she said comfortingly, ‘It just blends in with the other lines on your forehead.’ Thank god my modelling career isn’t over,” she said.

Lucy added: “Obviously the takeaway is don’t combine wine and pills…when you have cancer.”

With Lucy sharing the more vulnerable parts of her cancer journey, the comment section of her post was filled with plenty of support and people willing to have a laugh with her.

“I would have done the same. From one stranger to another, my thoughts are with you,” one wrote.

Another said: “But you should see the table… seriously, big love to you and your big heart.”
