Aussie comedian Judith Lucy has revealed she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Lucy, 58, took to her Instagram to make the announcement but did so in her usual tongue-in-cheek manner.

“If you’ve been wondering why I haven’t been posting much personal stuff the last couple of weeks. Here’s your answer. Strap in,” Lucy captioned a video of herself filmed in her home.
“Hi Australia, a little not-so-fun update from me. Yesterday three weeks ago I went to Moonee Ponds to pick up yet two more syringes of yet another stranger’s turds,” Lucy began an anecdote about how she discovered she had cancer.
“And in fact the nurse even said to me, ‘Gosh, it’s unusual that you haven’t had a better response to this.’ So already I was feeling pretty lucky.
“On my way home I got an email from Breast Screen Australia telling me that my mammogram result was a bit weird. And I take this opportunity to say ladies, for the love of god, keep up with your mammograms.

“Anyways, long story short, I’ve got breast cancer.”
Lucy said the cancer was in its early stages and said it was non-aggressive but she will undergo a double mastectomy.
“I didn’t want to say anything about it until I knew what was going on. I went in last Friday for a lumpectomy and a doctor called – I’m not making this up – Doctor Fun found more cancer.
“So we have gone from a lumpectomy to a mastectomy on Friday week. I said, ‘While you’re there, let’s get rid of the other one.’
“Because if I do say so myself, I have had 40 years of large and spectacular breasts. You had your chance fellas,” she joked.

“So I think I’m quite fine with going bra-free for my last chapter.”
Lucy also addressed what she called “the elephant in the room” – the fact that her cancer diagnosis coincided with the release of her health and wellness book Well Well Well ... My Wellness Odyssey from Psychics to Psychedelics and Beyond.
The memoir covers Lucy’s shock retirement from stand-up comedy in 2022 after dealing with profound burnout.
In it, she talks about her journey to recovery while road-testing various remedies.
“Fortunately, the book doesn’t end with me going, ‘And I’ve never been healthier.’
“In fact, the point of the book is that there are no quick fixes’.”

Lucy addded that between her fecal transplant and breast cancer, she could safely say the release of her book was only volume one and that she’d soon have much more to say.
In the comment section of Lucy’s post, friends and colleagues from the comedy scene rallied around her.
“You make everything funny. And how do we buy this book? Xmas gifts sorted for all. Love you Judith,” fellow comedian Dave Hughes wrote.
Another wrote: “Oh Jude. This is heavy. I’m so sorry. You made me laugh whilst also feeling shocked and sad for you. Beautiful contrast and not easy to do. You will be okay.”
Lucy is one of Australia’s most prominent stand-up comedian, authors, actors and media personalities.
With a career spanning more than three decades, she became a household name for her dry, deadpan delivery and painfully honest, self-deprecating autobiographical material.
