Aussie reality star Gael Cameron has posted a moving message as a domestic violence survivor, almost one year on from her ex Nathan Gallagher’s arrest.

“56 hearts. One for each woman who life ended at the hands of someone they once chose to trust this year alone in Australia,” Cameron wrote.
The reality star said her “heart broke into a million pieces” seeing the art installation, which honoured domestic violence victims.
“I cried for the families, and for those who lost their lives at the hands of another. But also for the women still there. Still stuck. Whose fate still feels out of their own hands,” she said.
“Those who understand, understand. And those who can’t relate I hope you find it in your heart to try to understand.”
Cameron called for change and said that she will no longer let her fear hold her back, instead it’s now a greater fear that the nation’s domestic violence crisis will continue.
“To all the women and men who have messaged me with similar stories: I hear you, I see you. There are women who can’t share this. Can’t like it, can’t save it, can’t have it sitting in their phone. I know you’re there,” Cameron continued.
“I have hope that someday you get to say to yourself the same thing I say to myself everyday day that keeps me going and is the reason you see me on here grateful for everyday I get to be here.”

She concluded by thanking the artists and including hotlines for domestic abuse victims.
The 56-heart installation was created by artists Omi McCurdie and Pip Lysaght.
Each heart featured a different phrase commonly heard to excuse domestic violence.
They included “boys will be boys”, “she coulda left”, “she winds him up” and “just a one off”.
