The 2025 Academy Awards nominations have come out, and while it's an exciting time for any actor nominated, it's a particularly thrilling moment for those who have just scored their first-ever nomination.
This year's awards show has also made history with one of its nominees, with the first-ever openly transgender actress receiving an Oscars nod.
From pop star Ariana Grande and Demi Moore, to Kieran Culkin and Guy Pearce, find out which stars can now add 'Oscar nominee' to their resumes.

Demi Moore
First she took home her first Golden Globe win for Best Female Actor in a Film – Musical or Comedy, and now Demi Moore is nominated for an Oscar!
The actress is nominated for the Best Actress trophy for her role in 2024 horror The Substance.
In a statement shared with multiple media outlets, Moore said the nomination was an "incredible honor and these last few months have been beyond my wildest dreams."
"Truly there are no words to fully express my joy and overwhelming gratitude for this recognition. Not only for me but for what this film represents. I am deeply humbled."
In her statement, the star noted it was "a time of incredible contrasts" amid the Los Angeles fires devastation.
Karla Sofía Gascón
Not only is Karla Sofía Gascón a first-time Oscar nominee, she has made Oscars history as the first openly transgender actress to be nominated at the awards.
Karla Sofía Gascón is nominated in the Best Actress category for Emilia Pérez.
The star shared her nomination news to Instagram, thanking the Academy for the nod.
Mikey Madison
Mikey Madison, 25, is now an Oscar-nominated actress!
Madison scored a Best Actress nod for her dazzling performance as Ani, a young sex worker from Brooklyn, in Anora.
Madison told Good Morning America, "It's incredibly exciting and very, very surreal."
"I'm so grateful, humbled – I'm so happy for my entire film.
"It's all so exciting. I'm just absolutely floating right now."
Fernanda Torres
Brazilian actress Fernanda Torres is another first-time nominee, battling it out in the Best Actress category.
The star took home the best performance by a female actor in a motion picture – drama win at the Golden Globes earlier this month. Now, she's nominated again for her role in I'm Still Here.
The Oscar nomination is particularly special as she is the second Brazilian actress to be nominated – the first was her mother, Fernanda Montenegro, in 1999.
Ariana Grande
Along with being a Grammy-winning singer, Ariana Grande can now add 'Oscar nominee' to her impressive resume.
The star is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Glinda in Wicked.
Grande took to Instagram to share her excitement at the award nod, posting a throwback photo of her dressed as Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, years before she landed her role in the prequel adaptation.
"Picking my head up in between sobs to say thank you so much to [the Academy] for this unfathomable recognition," she wrote.
"I'm humbled and deeply honored to be in such brilliant company and sharing this with tiny ari who sat and studied Judy Garland singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow just before the big, beautiful bubble entered."
She ended the post with a message to her younger self: "i'm so proud of you, tiny."
The star thanked her director Jon. M Chu, and co-star Cynthia Erivo, who is nominated for Best Actress.
"I don't quite have all my words yet, i'm still trying to breathe. but thank you. oh my goodness, thank you."
Zoe Saldaña
After taking home the Best Supporting Actress award at the Golden Globes, Zoe Saldaña has continued her 2025 awards season momentum with a nomination in the same category at the Oscars.
The Hollywood star is nominated for the first time for her performance in Emilia Pérez.
Saldaña celebrated the nomination news on Instagram by posting many heartwarming photos, including one of her grinning for a picture with her kids.
"How today feels :-)" she captioned the snaps.
Monica Barbaro
Joining Grande and Saldaña in the Best Supporting Actress category is Monica Barbaro.
Barbaro is nominated for her role as Joan Baez in the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown.
The actress posted a photo to Instagram of her reaction to the nomination, writing she was "literally floored" at hearing the news.
Barbaro said she was "completely humbled to see my name amongst the actresses in this category who I hold in such high regard, and am deeply grateful to the Academy for this recognition of everyone's brilliant work."
She bookended the Oscar news with a throwback photo of the email she got from director James Mangold confirming she had landed the part in his movie.
Isabella Rossellini
Isabella Rossellini joins the Best Supporting Actress nominees for her performance in Conclave.
The star marked the career milestone with an emotional message on her Instagram.
"When I was young I was always identified as the daughter of Ingrid Bergman and Roberto Rossellini," she began, referring to her parents who were an actress and director respectively.
"As I've gotten older, this doesn't happen as frequently and I miss it especially today," she continued.
"I wish my parents were alive to celebrate with me this great honor."
The star then said she was thinking of director David Lynch, who died this month.
"Our collaboration was key to my understanding of the art of acting's."
Kieran Culkin
Kieran Culkin is an Oscar-nominated actor!
Culkin scored his first Academy Award nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category for his movie, A Real Pain.
Kieran took home the best supporting actor win at the Golden Globes earlier this month.
