Australian newlywed, 32, drowns on honeymoon in Bali less than two weeks after wedding

A newlywed man who drowned on his honeymoon in Bali is being remembered as a "devoted father" and "beautiful human".

Jacob Vennix, 32, and wife Kimberley Fuller were swimming at Pasut Beach in western Bali on Monday when Vennix was carried out to sea by a strong current.

Fuller quickly called for help and two locals rushed to her husband's aid by boat.

It's understood the boat capsized during the rescue before Vennix was finally brought back to shore unconscious.

A local told 9News he rushed to the beach after hearing Vennix' cries for help.

"The victim was gasping for air, repeatedly shouting, 'help me, help me'," he said.

"Despite the difficulties, we managed to bring him to shore."

Fuller performed CPR before her husband was rushed to hospital.

"When we arrived at the ER, the medical team did everything they could, but sadly, the victim's life could not be saved," the witness told 9News.

"He passed away right in front of me."

This afternoon, Fuller posted a photo on Facebook from "the last night I had with him", showing the newlyweds holding hands.

"He was the most beautiful human, partner and father," she wrote.

"All he wanted was to marry me and love and look after me and the boys.

"I will make sure the boys know what an angel he was. Now an angel in heaven.

"I love you my darling. I'm so sorry."

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also shared his condolences, saying the death was "such deeply sad news".

"Our thoughts are with Jacob's wife, family and friends," he said.

Fuller and Vennix were married on December 20 in Adelaide before they headed to Bali.

They were honeymooning in a villa near the beach, north-west of Kuta.

Vennix's employer told 9News the couple had two children and was well liked by his colleagues.

Vennix was also a volunteer with Guide dogs SA/NT.

He raised thousands of dollars for the charity by running South Australia's City to Bay fun run in a blindfold in September.

The charity said it is "deeply saddened" about his death

"We offer our condolences to his family," a spokesperson for the charity, said.

"Jacob was a great supporter of Guide Dogs SA/NT and he will be missed by those he worked with in our team."

The Department of Foreign Affairs told 9News it was aware of the death.

"The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian who died in Bali, Indonesia," a spokesperson for DFAT said,

"We send our deepest condolences to the family at this difficult time."

It is unclear when his body will be brought home.
