Gunman on the run after opening fire on police in Sydney pursuit, alleged getaway driver charged
An armed man is on the run after he fired at a police officer and his dog in Sydney's south-west, while his alleged getaway driver has been arrested and charged with a string of offences.
A family at a home on Clararia Close in Edensor Park saw a man armed with a gun at their door on their security cameras at 1.30am.
Police rushed to the scene.

The man fled in a white Hyundai sedan.
The car was seen a short time later on Cowpasture Road, Hinchinbrook, and the driver allegedly refused to stop for police, who began a pursuit.
Deputy Commissioner Peter Thurtell said the passenger, who police believe was the man who tried to break into the house, leaned out the window of the car and fired several shots, two of which hit a police car.
The officer and police dog in the car were uninjured as the bullets hit a wheel rim and the car's grille.

The chase was stopped due to safety fears.
The sedan then crashed on St Andrews Road, Varroville, after police deployed road spikes about 1.50am.
The driver, a 20-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Campbeltown Police Station.
He was charged with nine offences, including aggravated break and enter, driving a stolen car while unlicensed, driving recklessly in a police pursuit, along with a string of weapons offences.
He was refused bail and is expected to appear in Parramatta Local Court tomorrow.
The passenger fled the crash scene on foot.

Thurtell said the man was "quite possibly or even probably" armed, with police reporting he had something in his hand.
Despite an hours-long search of the area involving PolAir and tactical officers, the man wasn't found.
He is described as being of medium build and was wearing a face mask with a black Nike hoodie, black tracksuit pants, white socks, black and white Nike shoes and black gloves.
Thurtell said he didn't believe there was a risk to the public.
Police seized two handguns - including one thought to have been used to fire at police - and a long gun from the crashed car, as well as several other weapons.
Thurtell said the incident at the home was believed to be targeted, with both the arrested man and resident known to police.
The latter had links to organised crime, Thurtell said.
