Trump announces re-election bid in rambling address to Washington media
Donald Trump has announced he will run for president in 2028 during a rambling speech to the Washington press corps.
Trump was speaking at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner when he appeared to make the announcement.

“I won three times, now I’m gonna do it again,” he said, while putting on a cap that read “Trump 2028″.
“I’m gonna do it again. It should be easy.”
He went on to add that he won in 2020 but the election was rigged.
The 80-year-old was met with a smattering of applause, but even he did not seem excited by the moment.
Presidents are only able to serve two terms, and if Trump wanted a third, the constitution would need to change.
He would also need to dramatically improve his dire approval ratings. Trump’s approval rating is lower than any modern president at this stage of the term.
The Correspondents’ Dinner is typically a light-hearted event, where comedians and presidents roast politicians and the media.
But Trump veered off course to address his usual grievances in a way that wasn’t playful.

“Jimmy Kimmel. Jimmy Fallon. They’re terrible. Stephen Colbert. These are people without talent,” he said.
“They are not comedians. They are angry, they are sick people.”
He also took aim at news anchor Don Lemon, rock star Bruce Springsteen and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
He also claimed that people in Washington DC were getting attacked in Ubers, explained that the word dumb was spelled with a b, and bragged about being number one on TikTok.
Used to speaking in front of his diehard supporters at rallies, much of Trump’s speech was met with silence from a bored-looking audience.
“This felt like one of those awkward wedding speeches where the bride’s father thinks he’s funnier than he is and goes on way too long,” former Biden administration press secretary Jen Psaki said.
Even during Trump’s speech, he panned the event he was headlining.
“It is been an interesting evening,” he said.
“I did not really know what to expect.
“And it is far worse than I actually thought if you want to know the truth.”

He then told the crowd of how important he was to the media.
“When I’m gone, you people will be broke,” Trump said.
“There’s going to be no one to report on. No one gives a damn about anyone else.”
The event had been rescheduled after a security scare at the previous event.
In April an armed man stormed the lobby of the hotel, forcing the cancellation of the dinner.
Trump and all the guests were evacuated from the dinner safely.
