A Trump administration staffer has been "promoted and fired within 24 hours" after she was seen throwing a drink at another fan at a basketball game.

Britt McHenry, a former ESPN reporter was promoted into a new role as a press advisor at the State Department on Wednesday.

Britt McHenry worked at the State Department for just six weeks before she was fired.

And on Thursday she was forced to resign after she was filmed in an altercation at an NBA game between the Washington Wizards and the Milwaukee Bucks.

McHenry was escorted out of the stadium in Washington DC after throwing a drink on another person in the audience.

As she left, the crowd booed her loudly.

According to reports, she had been responding to people sitting behind her who had been heckling player Kyle Kuzma by insulting his fiancee, model Winnie Harlow.

The New York Post reports that after the altercation, she was forced to resign.

She had previously been suspended from ESPN after video emerged of her berating a tow-truck company worker in 2015.

She was hired by the State Department after working at ESPN, before working at Fox News then Real America's Voice, both conservative news channels.

She has since deleted her X account.

The Trump administration has a reputation for short careers, especially among those in media relations.

Last week Katie Zacharia was fired as White House press secretary after just five days on the job.

Zacharia was Trump's sixth press secretary, a record number.

While press secretaries rarely hold onto the job for long, their tenures under Trump have been unusually brief.

Sean Spicer, Stephanie Grisham and Kayleigh McEnany were in the job for less than a year.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Karoline Leavitt both left after less than two years.
