Yellowstone took the world by storm, and the show's creator, Taylor Sheridan, seems to have no plans of letting the hype die down anytime soon.

Before the original series even came to a close, it seems that Sheridan was already looking for ways to expand the universe and tell more of the Dutton family's story.

Two spinoff series were released before Yellowstone's fifth season finished airing, and since then, the spinoffs have just kept coming.

'1883' (One season)

What is '1883' about?

1883 was the first Yellowstone spinoff, released back in 2021 while Yellowstone was still in its fourth season.

The show delves into the origins of the Dutton family, how they wound up in Montana, and came to own the land that would later go on to become the Yellowstone ranch.

It focuses on James Dutton, an American Civil War Confederate captain, his wife Margaret Dutton, and their two children, Elsa and John Dutton.

The 10-episode series follows the family's journey through the Old West and the Great Plains, seeking out a shot at prosperity during the westward expansion movement of the time.

Tim McGraw stars in the series as James Dutton, with Faith Hill taking on the role of Margaret, Isabel May as Elsie, and Audie Rick as John.

The series also sees stars such as Sam Elliot and Billy Bob Thornton joining the cast, as well as none other than Tom Hanks making a special guest appearance in one episode.

1883 was always destined to be one and done, with Sheridan specifically creating it as a one-season limited series.

However, that doesn't mean that the story is over. It picks back up 40 years later, in 1923, focusing on the next generation of Dutton ranchers and narrated by Isabel May as Elsie Dutton.

It premiered in 2022, whilst the fifth and final season of the original series was airing.

The show jumps decades ahead of 1883, focusing on James Dutton's brother, Jacob Dutton and his wife, Cara Dutton.

The show explores the family's fight to preserve the ranch established in 1883 by James and Margaret as they deal with the added pressures of the Great Depression and Prohibition.

At the moment, we know very little about this spinoff.

Obviously, it will be set in the year 1944, but outside of that, all we can guess is that the series will continue telling the story of the next generation of the Dutton family and their efforts to keep the Yellowstone ranch alive.

Who stars in '1944'?

There has been no cast announced as of yet.

'Yellowstone' (Five seasons)

It's the original show that drew us all into Sheridan's universe.

We're assuming if you're here, you've seen the show, so we probably don't need to go into too much detail.

But for those who want a refresher, Yellowstone follows John Dutton III and his four children in the modern day, as they grapple to keep their ranch alive.

The show came to an unfortunate end in season five when the star, Kevin Costner, confirmed that he would not be returning for the second half of the season.

Thankfully, Sheridan was able to write his way around it to give fans some closure, but obviously, we all wanted more.

Hence why we're only halfway through our timeline of spinoffs.

What is 'Marshals' about?

Marshals is the first spinoff to air after the conclusion of the main series.

It follows fan favourite character Kayce Dutton, one of John Dutton III's kids from Yellowstone, and his journey after leaving the ranch at the end of season five.

The show follows Kayce's story as he joins an elite U.S. Marshals team in Montana, using his experience on the Navy Seals to help the team solve crimes in his own unique way.

The show almost follows a Law and Order type structure, with the team dealing with a new crime each episode, all the while Kayce is struggling with his own family life – the details of which we won't reveal because ... spoilers.

'2024' (Cancelled)

When Yellowstone came to a close, multiple spinoff series were announced to help lessen the blow to fans – one of those was a series called 2024.

It was meant to be a continuation of the Yellowstone universe, set in the present day and dealing with the direct aftermath of the Yellowstone finale and exploring the Dutton family dynasty.

It was given a straight-to-series order, and Matthew McConaughey was initially reported to star in the series; however, he was never confirmed.

But just as fans were beginning to get excited, the series was cancelled.

Well, maybe cancelled is the wrong word.

2024 was renamed to The Madison, a new series starring Michelle Pfieffer and Kurt Russell.

Although the series is set in Montana, the characters have no relation to the Dutton family, and the overall vibe is pretty different compared to what we've come to expect from the Yellowstone universe.

So, while the show wasn't entirely cancelled, all aspects that tied it to Yellowstone were.

'Dutton Ranch' (Coming soon)

What is 'Dutton' about?

This may be the most highly anticipated Yellowstone spin-off of them all, and it's not even set in Montana.

Throughout the original series, Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler were major fan favourites, and a continuation of their story was possibly one of the most requested, if not the most requested spinoff.

So, fans are chomping at the bit with excitement for the upcoming Dutton Ranch, for which we recently scored our first trailer.

The show is set to pick up where Yellowstone left off, with Beth and Rip in their new home in Texas with their adopted son, Carter.

We really don't know much else about this one yet, but one thing is guaranteed – it's going to be big.

Who stars in 'Dutton Ranch'?

Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser are returning to the roles of Beth and Rip, alongside Finn Little as Carter.

At the moment, we know that Annette Bening and Ed Harris are also set to join the cast.

Are there more seasons on the way?

While nothing is confirmed and season one hasn't even hit our screens, we're hoping that in the style of Marshals, Dutton Ranch will get an early renewal for season two.

'6666' (On hold)

Finally, there's 6666 (referred to as the four sixes).

This spinoff is set to take place after the events of Yellowstone, as we head to the Four Sixes ranch in West Texas in a non-Dutton central story, this time focusing on ranch hand Jimmy from the original series.

However, the series has been put on hold following Sheridan's purchase of the Four Sixes ranch (Yellowstone was a fictional ranch, but this one is real).

Another spinoff series is set to follow Jimmy's story on the Four Sixes ranch, which Sheridan recently purchased.  Stan

"That, for a number of reasons, needs a unique level of special care because this is a real place with real families working here," Sheridan told The Hollywood Reporter.
