Zoë Foster Blake reveals the genius design secret in her living room

One good thing that's come out of a lot more of us spending time at home in self-isolation is we're getting a sneak peek into people's homes.

Zoë Foster Blake is easily one of the most stylish women around and her home is no exception.

Taking to her Instagram stories over the weekend she shared the relatable reality of the COVID-19 crisis but the only thing we're interested in is how she hides her television.

Zoë and her husband Hamish Blake are parents to two young children, Sonny and Rudy, and it looks like self-isolation has thrown their home out of routine.

The couple have their television mounted on the wall like the rest of us, however theirs can be tucked away because of a very clever design choice.

In the before photo, their living room is sleek and stylish. Two big white cabinets lean up against the feature wall, which is covered in an incredible wallpaper; the room looks like an ideal adults retreat.

Onto the after photo and the cupboard doors have been flung open to reveal a wall mounted television and sound bar. In a scene most parents of young kids will be able to relate to, toys and blankets cover the floor — it looks a lot like Sonny and Rudy have taken over the space.

Having the television inside the cupboard means you can have it as a focus of the room when you want, but also hide it away to turn the space into a formal living area.

It's such a simple way to camouflage your TV and turn the space into two different, but very practical living areas that the whole family can enjoy.

There are other simple design choices you can make that double as chic styling and television hiding.

Sliding panels

If you're short on space, hanging two sliding panels on the wall your television is mounted on will act as a curtain. This gives you a way to tuck your television away but still keeping it there for when you need it. The panels can also fit the design of your home — barn doors work well for a rustic or industrial style home, whereas two big pieces of art on sliding racks could fit a modern home.

Barn doors also work well for an entire television unit that you want to be able to open and close depending on how you want the room to function.

Mirrored television

On last year's season of The Block we saw Jesse and Mel opt for a television in a mirror in one of their rooms to add the technology to the space without making it the feature.

A mirrored TV is a sleek and creative design choice, although it must be put in a specific position to work best. Mirrored TVs are best viewed in low-light conditions as a television but the mirror needs high levels of light for optimal reflection. If you can darken your living area it will work well, but if not it's worth thinking of another camouflage option.
