Tess and Luke share heartbreaking news amid coronavirus pandemic

The Block 2019 winners Tess and Luke are mourning the loss of a beloved family member.

The couple took to their joint Instagram account on Wednesday to announce that Tess' grandmother had died, just two weeks after her 90th birthday.

Like others who have lost a loved one in recent weeks, they explained COVID-19 has made "everything difficult and impersonal" in a heartbreaking post.

"Treasured in your heart, I will never be far. I will always be.... just where you are," reads the caption.

"We would usually keep these things private, but we want to be as transparent and honest with you as possible, and the amount of love you showed Grandma Cleo for her 90th birthday was touching."

The emotional post was shared alongside a photo of Tess as a toddler and her grandma.

"Over the weekend, we lost our beautiful Cleopha. She lived 90 beautiful years, got to meet her first great grandchild, saw her children and grandchildren succeed and continued to love and support us til her last day. This hasn't made it any easier. Covid19 has made everything difficult and impersonal. We didn't get to wrap our arms around her for her birthday, we didn't get to be by her side every day. We won't be able to send her off the way she deserves and wished for, all of her family aren't able to be here with her for the last time and we aren't able to hold each other to support each other through this emotional time. It's isolating and it's unfair," the post continued.

"We know we aren't the only ones to lose a loved one during this pandemic, and we wanted to send our love and support to those who have been going through what we have. The amount of love we have received from our friends and family is unreal - we are blessed to have such genuine people in our lives, thank you."

Followers offered their love and condolences to the pair, some sharing their own stories of how coronavirus has affected them with similar situations.

Earlier this month Tess shared beautiful photos of her grandma as they celebrated her 90th birthday though social distancing, talking through a window.

"It was really emotional only being able to see her through the glass, not being able to wrap our arms around her and give her a big kiss, but she looks incredible, she's safe and she's healthy," she captioned the post.

"These times are tough but we're telling you, this woman is tougher."

From their time on The Block we know family is so important to both Tess and Luke and we're thinking of them at this difficult time.
