Episode 33 recap: Adam and Wyatt butt heads over ‘theft’ before judges rip into team’s ‘wrong’ rumpus room
A Room Reveal Monday! How fun!
Rumpus and Laundry Week sounds like it should be a chill one, but throw in this year’s community challenge and a (metaphorical) cyclone or 12, and you get … chaos.
Courtney’s not have a good time. Nine
Let’s bring that focus back to the actual rooms, shall we?
Because Courtney and Sev have paint drama!
The colour Sev ordered is, uh, hideous, so she’s changing it at the very last minute.
This means Courtney will end the week having done six coats of paint, and she’s taking it really well.
House 1 needs a favour from House 2, which Chantel and Wyatt think is fine, except for the fact they’ve sent the Cursios to ask them about it instead of fronting up themselves.
Later, Wyatt discovers House 1’s tradies took the tool they needed from House 2 anyway, even though they didn’t get permission.
He confronts Adam about “stealing” it, but Adam denies being involved.
??? Nine
It quickly comes back to Jolene catching Wyatt in their house earlier in the week, as Adam suggests Wyatt was “standing over” her in an intimidating way.
Wyatt says he doesn’t appreciate them “talking shit” about him.
“Pull your head in, mate,” Adam reacts.
Awkward!
After tools down, Scott Cam announces that this week his Plungie prize pool update is a $50,000 art package.
And this week’s budget winners are Lisa and Rosco, again.
Adam and Jolene
The judges enter House 1’s rumpus through a “nice, substantial door”, which is always a plus ..?
“It’s a feast for texture, isn’t it?” Darren Palmer reacts.
Shaynna Blaze loves that the room’s feature wall ties back to other rooms in their house.
Darren doesn’t love the Grafico wallpaper, thinking a classic piece of art would elevate the room much more.
“That’s not shouting luxury at this price point,” Marty Fox agrees.
However, he loves the compact exercise machine so much that he begins a tricep workout right then and there.
Unsure if smile or grimace. Nine
Looking around the room, Darren loves almost every inclusion – especially the stone benchtop.
Not Shaynna, though, who spots one of her biggest pet peeves.
“How many times do I have to say, I do not want to see a teeny, tiny plant in a corner?” she says.
She’s just as upset to find another small plant in the laundry, but otherwise there’s not much to complain about.
In fact, the judges think it’s “sexy”. Okaaaay then!
Chantel and Wyatt
Beige is the name of the game in House 2, and it has the judges divided once again.
Shaynna’s scared to touch anything. She also doesn’t think it’s functional.
“There’s no coffee table, there’s no side table, there’s nothing,” she says. “You don’t feel welcome in here.”
Darren thinks the furniture feels too tight, which he blames on the nib wall at the entrance.
There are some positives: the curtains, the TV unit, the couch and the rug.
The judges think it’s not a bad room, but lacking in amenity.
“They’re not selling the dream,” Shaynna says … throwing a jab at the “cheap lamp” next to her.
They head to the laundry where, uh:

Shaynna thinks putting a big ol’ piece of art on the laundry wall is weird.
It’s not the only weird styling choice, with a book sitting on the bench.
That aside, though, Marty thinks it’s a textbook great laundry space.
Lisa and Rosco
House 3’s rumpus feels huge, despite being the same size as House 2’s, and the judges love that.
They still have the same nib wall, but placing their cabinetry along the side wall has made all the difference.
“I can’t believe that these rooms are the same, but they are,” Marty marvels.
They’ve also included a coffee table! Yay!
The room has the same vibe as their kitchen with its dark cabinetry and once again, the judges think it works.
With a kitchenette and a sink, it’s highly amenable too.
Marty can visualise this space being used, with kids in the pool outside, a movie on the TV and beer in the fridge inside.
“It’s a really nice, casual way to just live,” he says.
Shaynna agrees, saying that unlike the other two houses so far, this room doesn’t have “formality”, and that’s precisely how a rumpus should be.
The praise continues into the laundry, which matches the dark cabinets with dark appliances.
From those details to the stone bench to the copper tapware, Marty is impressed by the “richness” of the room.
“There are no notes,” Darren says.
Courtney and Sev
Houses 4 and 5 have much larger rumpus rooms than the downtown houses and the judges are immediately blown away by the sheer size.
“Whoa, this has impact,” Shaynna reacts immediately.
Courtney and Sev have hidden their TV behind rolling wooden doors, a design the judges had never seen on The Block before (despite their many suggestions!)
Darren loves everything so much he’s “fizzing out”, whatever that means.
Their kitchenette wins the day, with a coffee machine, a mini-dishwasher and a drinks fridge.
“I’m so besotted with every single decision,” Darren says.
Marty wonders if it’s the best room they’ve seen all season, which Darren says it absolutely is.
All that stands between the girls and a 10 is their laundry!
Thankfully, that’s also great.
It’s got everything you could possibly need and even things you don’t, like the curves on the end of the cabinets.
“I’ve got a feeling this might be the first week of three 10s,” Marty says, which immediately jinxes them.
Darren notices an incomplete skirting board, prompting his colleagues to close their eyes and ears.
Can’t judge what they don’t see, I guess!
Rick and Tayla
Every week, Rick and Tayla hope for the best (three 10s, even). But then …
“Huge room, but funny layout,” Marty reacts.
He’s confused by everything feeling squished to one side of the room, with everything oriented around the smallest wall.
Darren doesn’t think the furniture is comfortable enough for a liveable rumpus, saying it felt more like a holiday home.
Then he starts pointing out all the wrong choices, from the rug to the table to the pendants. Nothing is the right scale.
Shaynna joins in, taking aim at the artwork this time.
“It’s wrongly laid out, it really is,” she agrees, shaking her head.
It sounds rough, but Darren insists this isn’t a bad room.
Things get better for Rick and Tayla in the laundry, which the judges all really like.
“It’s perfect, it’s a great laundry,” Marty praises.
You know, as long as they don’t look too closely at the paint job.

It’s a near-perfect week for the girls, whose budget gets a big boost thanks to two 10s! The final scores are:

With that done and dusted, we’re about to move on to a crazy milestone: the final indoor room in the house.
Oh, and a redo room, giving everyone a chance to fix a space the judges didn’t like.
That means two rooms and two Room Reveals – what could possibly go wrong?
