Episode 32 recap: Tayla and Jolene go head-to-head, and the community challenge rooms are revealed

It’s Thursday morning and between this week’s rooms, the community challenge and paint in their hair, there is a lot for the Blockheads to juggle.

Naturally, that justifies Tayla and Lisa pretending their car broke down as an excuse for missing pre-start.

Karma works fast, as Jolene accosts them with bad news about their Ranch 2.0 apartment: their “terracotta” painted wall plans have been sabotaged by the men.

Now their kids’ room is blue.

Adam and Rosco say they were told the person moving into the apartment would hate their terracotta/caramel/coffee hue so they made an executive decision, but their wives point out that all their styling choices were made to match all those fancy words for brown.

To make matters worse, their rivals have been hogging a van the teams are meant to be sharing, which has made picking up orders pretty difficult.

Jolene goes next door to raise the issue and ends up in a verbal back-and-forth with Charlotte.

After some last-minute van sharing, shopping and styling, it is tools down on this year’s community challenge.

Technically, the real winner is the Mount Eliza community but that doesn’t mean there’s no judging – and for this, Scott Cam and Shelley Craft are joined by the man who knows exactly what these homes should be, Mornington Community Support Centre chief executive Ben.

Apartment 4

Team Adam and Jolene hasn’t been as happy families as their rivals, but that hasn’t stopped them delivering a great result for the Ranch 2.0.

Their living and dining space has ample storage for tenants to store the belongings they arrive with, which Ben is impressed by.

He wanted these apartments to feel like home, which this definitely does.

He thinks the main bedroom is “incredibly special” and does his best Darren Palmer impression by getting tactile with the headboard in the kids bedroom.

“This is really beautiful … kids can come in, feel like home,” he says.

The kids’ room will also be able to be chopped and changed easily depending on the needs of the tenant, which is a huge plus.

Apartment 5

Entering the home’s living and kitchen area, Shelley is impressed by how spacious Team Maddy and Charlotte have managed to make a relatively small room feel.

“Wow, that is something different,” Ben reacts. “How on earth have they managed to do this? This is unbelievable.”

He thinks the main bedroom is warm and comfortable, with that homey feeling he was looking for.

Their kids’ room has a world map wall paper, which Ben loves.

“I’m struggling for words because this will light up eyes,” he says, emotional.

Last up is the bathroom, which packs a big punch for a small room.

It’s a tough choice, but Ben announces Apartment 5 as the winning space, scoring Chantel and Wyatt and Courtney and Sev $5000 each.

Finally, it’s time to return to The Block and focus back on this week’s rumpus and laundry rooms.

With three days remaining, House 2 bring in a secret weapon that requires a not-so-secret grand entrance – a stone bath.

Tayla is annoyed because she wanted that exact bath, but was told it would cost $11,000 to get the plumbing done.

To make matters worse, it’s being placed on House 5’s frontyard for temporary storage.

Big mistake:

“Jealousy makes you do weird things,” Chantel reacts.

Scotty and Shelley begin their weekly walkarounds in House 5, who talk them through their rumpus plans and completely avoid all mention of their bath bin.

Rick does bring up that he’s been the victim of an olive tree theft, however, which has Scotty eager to play detective.

Turns out he’s pretty good at it, as the culprit’s accomplice, Courtney, quickly crumbles.

Scotty gives our tree-sized thief an ultimatum: there will be no punishment if Rick’s tree is returned within the hour.

Wyatt complies, but with a catch:

Unfortunately for sweet, innocent Adam, Rick takes the note at face value.

This is bad news for House 1, especially as Tayla becomes suspicious about whether one of their tradies is allowed to be on site after hours.

The guy is a plasterer, and is allowed to be there, but Tayla kicks off.

She tries to kick him out, gets into a back-and-forth about semantics with Adam and Jolene, and then sprints into their house without permission to interrogate further.

Not great.

Jolene confronts her for making her team feel uncomfortable and says they should know her better than as a rule-bender.

“We don’t know you at all, Jolene,” Tayla fires back. “I don’t know you at all, babe.”

They start yelling at each other, which is when Tayla says Adam comes into their house and steals their plants.

Uh oh!

Courtney and Sev are listening from next door, and immediately know Adam is innocent but neither Tayla nor Jolene are aware of that.

“If that’s how she’s going to behave, it’s game on,” Jolene reacts.

That was full on!

On Monday night (you can blame the footy for interrupting Sunday’s usual Room Reveal schedule), team relations get even worse as Adam and Wyatt butt heads.
