TikToker's video goes viral after revealing her hilarious reaction to a rookie painting error

Painter's tape is a necessity when it comes to protecting your ceiling trims from getting paint on them when you paint the walls.

You just have to make sure it's actually on the trim, which one woman found out the hard way after an hour painting her dining room.

The hilarious TikTok video of Jillian Smart's rookie error has now been viewed by 4.2 million people after it went viral.

In the clip Jillian taped up the trims before painting the wall using a brush and roller.

"Imagine spending an hour making this video and not realising. God I thought I looked so cool," read the text on her video.

She even took a break for a drink and a dance, and it's when she returned to the task that she realised the wall didn't look right.

"There's no way... the entire room," she added.

Jillian finished her video by asking for compliments in the comments section after her 'face palm' moment.

"This is so embarrassing I cant watch," she captioned the video.

As requested, most viewers were kind to Jillian and encouraged her to reframe the mistake in a positive way.

"But did you get any paint on the trim? So you achieved your goal. Just not how you wanted," one person commented.

"In three months this will be the new accent wall trend. You are just early," a woman posted.

"I did that at my rental house. I even thought 'I wonder why you're supposed to do this'," a man said.

While some found it funny, others couldn't work out what the problem was until they read the comments.

And then there was one sexist comment suggesting Jillian should've asked her boyfriend to paint for her.

Jillian had the best response to this with another video showing her patching up the wall, sanding it and then completely painting the room all by herself (with the tape now in the right spot).

Then her husband walks in looking very impressed with the work.

"Reply to @newcarspin he does nothing but admire me, as he should," the caption said in response.
