Rachael Gavin

Rachael Gavin is a senior reporter at nine.com.au with a particular interest in home lifestyle content.

Experience

Rachael Gavin writes about topics relating to daily life in and around the home, including cleaning, gardening, decluttering, organising and decor, focusing on inspiring readers and making the everyday a little bit easier. She casts a critical eye over home hacks and tips to share what works and fits with how we really live, speaking regularly to professional cleaners and organisers, gardeners, appliance technicians and more. Rachael also works closely with major retailers such as Kmart and Bunnings, as well as other home brands.

Rachael started working at Nine in 2018, producing content for the Today show, Getaway and Postcards websites. Shortly after she became a writer and content producer for the Married At First Sight, The Block, Ninja Warrior and Lego Masters websites, while producing short form video content for Aussie dramas like Doctor Doctor. She also reported extensively on shows and movies streaming on Stan, interviewing actors and celebrities from around the world. Rachael joined 9honey in 2023 for the launch of the Living vertical and has remained in the Lifestyle team covering homes, pets, money, royals and more.

She began her career at Prime news in Wollongong, where she wrote the scripts for the regional networks short news update bulletins. She then decided to try her hand at magazines as the sole staff writer at Australian Giftguide magazine, an industry publication for gifts and homewares wholesalers and retailers. After three years, inspired by her love of television she joined the team at TV Soap and Soap World magazines as their staff writer, covering Australian soaps and dramas. It was this experience that led her to the Entertainment team at nine.com.au.

Rachael is still a passionate TV viewer but is mostly enjoying just watching it these days, though still reports on it from time to time. When she’s not streaming the latest heartwarming dramas, she’s either crocheting or sewing, or thinking about those two things. Other interests include reading, gardening, history and walking.

Education

Rachael completed a Bachelor of Media and Communications, majoring in journalism, and a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in history, at the University of Wollongong. She has also trained in TV presenting, completing NIDA’s TV Presenter’s Studio Open Program in 2013.
