This week was certainly memorable for The Block's most happy-go-lucky pair – and it didn't even have anything to do with their room!

First, Emma and Ben celebrated their third wedding anniversary.

Then just days later, they revealed that Emma had been secretly pregnant during filming and they were having a baby boy!

On top of all that, they completed a living and dining room they hoped the judges loved.

Emma and Ben are desperate to start turning their second place finishes into actual wins – and some much needed cold, hard cash.

In their attempt this week, they spent $22,269 – a touch above the room's recommended $20k budget.

"We haven't won a room yet. In the last few weeks we've got second, so that means we're on the right track," Emma said.

"A win would just mean the world."

As the judges entered, they couldn't help but gush over House 1's incredible pitched roof.

"It just feels so expansive," Shaynna reacted.

Darren agreed.

"I'm really fond of the architecture in this house. I love that pitched roof and the way that they've treated this with all those Velux [skylights]."

With the only elevated house on The Block, House 1's living and dining should offer a great vantage point overlooking the outdoor view.

"This is a massive selling point for buyers, having this height to be able to look out and watch the family playing and entertaining," Marty said.

"Watch them from where?" Darren asked.

Uh oh...

Marty had meant to watch them from the sofa, but there was a problem.

It was facing the wrong way.

Everything was oriented around the TV, which hung on the wall opposite the windows.

The judges felt this made the space less functional whenever the TV is not being used.

"The connection to the outside and your living spaces sell the dream," Darren explained, but all this is selling is a chiropractor bill from having to turn your head so much.

However, Darren did really like the bench under the screen.

Marty wasn't so sure, however.

"Seeing this timber and this sort of rustic look, it doesn't really tie in with the rest of the house," he said, calling it "jarring".

It was the orange of the timber stain throwing him off, but Emma and Ben said it was the same lacquer they'd used in their other rooms.

While the ceiling felt so grand, Shaynna said the placement of everything else felt "off".

"I am struggling in here," she admitted.
