Four tips to help elevate your laundry space with styling expert Chantel Mila

Rumpus and laundry week is here on The Block, and we never thought we’d say this, but it’s almost got us excited about the idea of washing our clothes.

A good laundry can transform doing the washing from a chore you dread into a task that can actually be enjoyable, and styling expert Chantel Mila is here to explain how.

Known as Mama Mila to her three million Instagram followers, Chantel stopped by The Block this week to share some tips on how to elevate your laundry.

Think about your bench space

Sometimes the most simple things can make the most significant difference.

Chantel explains that one of the most crucial parts of the laundry is making sure you have ample bench space to fold your clothes so you don’t feel like you’re cramped and rushed to get out of there.

Don’t forget about hanging space

Hanging space is something most people don’t even think of when putting their laundry together, but it’s something that can turn an average room into a luxury experience.

“It comes in handy after ironing, you can hang your clothes up here,” Chantelle says. “It’s also great for drying your clothes as well.”

Make some DIY scent boosters

What’s even the point of doing laundry if your clothes don’t smell divine by the time you’re done?

Judging by the price of grocery store scent boosters, you might think that making them at home isn’t an easy task. But it’s actually quite the opposite.

“You can make these really easily using items you probably have in your pantry right now,” Chantel says.

Chantel put her scent booster together using one cup of baking soda, one cup of epsom salts and a couple of drops of essential oil before mixing it together and explaining all you need is a simple teaspoon added to your wash.

Think about your washer/dryer placement

Don’t just throw your washer and dryer into the laundry willy-nilly. Chantel explains that it can make a huge difference to the ease of your task depending on where you place them.

If you have two front loaders, you want to place your washer and dryer so that the doors open away from each other. That way, it’s easy to move your laundry from one to the other.

If you have the doors opening into each other, it’s just one more thing that is going to make laundry feel like even more of a chore than it already is.
