Adam and Jolene land $100k win with design move no team would dare do
Designing a kitchen, you then plan to sell, sure is a risky time to make a bold move. Especially with $100,000 in extra prizes on the line.
During Kitchen, Pantry, WC and Lift Week, Adam and Jolene were the only team who dared reduce the size of their island bench and flip its orientation.

Now facing their “absolutely priceless” water views, it’s a move that could very much be a winning one on Auction Day.
House 1’s biggest worry, was that judge Marty Fox detested their floor-to-ceiling mirror during Living and Dining Week, that set out to achieve the same goal.
“I hope Marty Fox eats his words,” said Adam heading into reveals.
Marty did eat his words.
Standing from their perfectly positioned island bench, the judges could see the city and ocean views from the window and the reflection in the mirror.
“Told you so,” bragged Darren Palmer as Marty happily admitted defeat.
“You told me so. That is quite spectacular,” Marty beamed. “I admit it. You’re right.”
The judges most definitely agreed that repositioning the island bench was a game-changing move – the team bagged their second win of the season!

Words like “spectacular”, “fantastic”, “considered” and “elegant” were thrown around as they took in the bench that was “beautifully cohesive” the with team’s winning Living and Dining space.
The judges were obsessed with the size and finish of the island bench too.
The team chose a gorgeous Dekton Ava slab with a luxuriously smooth matte finish and textured pattern throughout.
With warm shades of cream perfectly tying in with the rendered walls, the slab undeniably made a statement in the large sumptuous space.
While a smaller island bench than the other houses, the layout simply worked. Nine
“It’s not highly polished, and it feels like natural stone that’s just come out of the ground and blends beautifully with all the other textures that are in this room,” gushed Shaynna Blaze.
In another bold move, Adam and Jolene chose to exclude a sink in the island bench, only commanding more attention to how grand the bench was.
Not to mention, plenty of space for food and entertaining.
“Looking at the layout, it’s probably one of the best kitchens I’ve ever seen,” Marty marvelled. “I’ve been in the game for nearly 20 years.”

It was a heart-racing moment at Block HQ when the scores were being read out. Adam and Jolene pondered whether to use their Bonus Point Gnome for an extra point on the scoreboard.
Turns out they didn’t need to. They managed to win their second Room Reveal by one and a half points.
