Jesse and Mel have done a lot themselves so far on The Block but nothing comes close to the work that's gone into their courtyard feature wall.

With 105,212 pieces of the Grafico ivy mosaic to lay, he was confident he could do it all himself, but then reality kicked in.

For the tiler-turned-real estate agent, not getting it done wasn't an option.

"I thought, 'It's a public holiday, I can probably get this done myself in two days'. We also knew a challenge was coming so I started. Then I called Mel and was like, 'Hey can you please come and help me? I can't do this on my own," he told 9Entertainment.

"So Mel, having never laid a tile before, literally became my apprentice, and for the next 22 hours we took on probably one of the most extravagant and intricate features on The Block."

It was a massive task that was not only time consuming, but draining too, tiling the 40sqm space.

"Mel is the best apprentice and hats off to her," he gushed.

"She was exhausted for like two days after that, she couldn't lift her arms properly, she was cooked but she just had a crack. That's why I love her."

Throughout a lot of the show so far, the St Kilda couple have tried to stay in their own lane and do their own thing, and Jesse believes the wall is an example of that attitude.

"It's like, right, we've got a massive job ahead, let's not complain about how hard it is, let's just do it and yeah, I'm so proud of her, she's an amazing girl," he added.

It was an insanely big task to take on and the pair did get some help from their neighbours.

Taking to Instagram, Jesse and Mel shared a behind-the-scenes video of the process, with Tess and Luke on the scaffold too, hard at work.

"How's the two legends from next door @tessandluke coming over to give us a helping hand! They didn't owe us anything Jesse went to help them expecting nothing in return but being the amazing people they are they wanted to come and help us out! That's what good people do you help others without expecting anything in return. Can't thank you both enough we love ya's you're good people," they captioned the video.

Foreman Keith had his doubts about House 5 getting the tiling job finished and on Wednesday night he was put in his place.

Jesse called him over to show off the finished job, and still bitter from the golfing loss, Keith acted unimpressed.

Now it all comes down to the judges and their thoughts on the great wall of tiles.
