Sometimes just throwing your clothes or laundry into the washing machine isn't enough to bust tough stains.

On occasion a strip wash, which is a really deep clean, is necessary, and you might want to consider doing it with your kids' toys in the near future.

One mum has shared the disgusting results from washing her kids' bunnies using the strip wash method and it's incredible how much grime was hiding inside them.

Sharing before-and-after photos in the Mums Who Clean Facebook Group, she explained that the soft toys are washed regularly, but were still so dirty.

A mum has shared how disgusting her kids' bunnies, that are washed weekly, really are.  Facebook

"Strip washed the kids' bunnies today. These are cleaned almost weekly in a normal machine wash," she wrote.

"Photos are before, the water after the soak and after. So soft and fluffy, and smell great."

The recipe she used is:

  • 2 tspn borax powder
  • 2 tspn washing soda
  • 1/4 cup washing liquid (or powder)
  • The mum added that she used boiling hot water instead of tap water for the method

"Soak until water is cold then chuck in for a normal machine wash (I used hot cycle) with extra rinse, I also hang them inside to dry," she wrote in the post.

In the before photos the bunnies look a bit ratty and dirty, but they were absolutely filthy judging by what came out in the water.

The tub she soaked them in was full of brown, sludge-coloured water after the soak, proving that despite weekly machine washes the bunnies weren't getting the clean they needed.

"I would gag seeing what comes out of my son's blanket and his jelly cat bunny. Think I'm gonna do it though," wrote one mum.

Another added, "All their cute little noises are back to pink hehe so fluffy. What a great job."

"I definitely need to do this our bunnies are looking a little yucky even after a wash," commented another mum.

"Omg I've never washed my daughter's bunnies I'm going to vomit I have to wash them asap," wrote one mum.

One woman asked, "How did you get them so fluffy again?" and the original poster replied that she air dried the soft toys and then fluffed them up by hand when they were dry.
