‘A massive head start’: Rick’s selfless response after he and daughter Tayla win $905k

Exclusive: Block viewers will know that Tayla isn’t usually lost for words, but a massive $905,000 profit after House 5’s auction just about did it.

“The Block’s changed our…” the mother-of-one began, before becoming a puddle of tears in her dad’s arms.

Rick said they were confident that there were buyers interested in their property and believed they would sell, but never expected such a large figure.

They would split it evenly, meaning they would each walk away from The Block with $452.5k.

“It will set Tayla up and then, I’m 63 and just about washed up, but we’ll sit down and talk about what we’re going to do with it, and plan what we do with our future,” Rick said.

“But it’s just a massive head start for Tay.”

The duo reflected on their journey, which they said was a lot of hard work.

“It’s been a tough three months,” Rick admitted.

“I think Tayla had fun from day one, as it showed, and I think she brought some good TV … I wish I had more fun doing so,” he said.

Rick and Tayla’s auction was one of the day’s most lively, with multiple bidders including familiar faces Danny Wallis and buyer’s agent Frank Valantic taking up the last opportunity to own a house on this year’s Block.

Despite Scott Cam joking that their auctioneer, 22-year-old Ryan King, looked 12 years old, the impressive youngster sold House 5 for an incredible $4.355 million.

“12-year-old goes alright, doesn’t he,” Tayla reacted during the sale.
