Episode 19 recap: Foreman Dan packs his bags and Scott Cam brutally shuts down contestant

It’s game on for Living, Dining and Alfresco week on The Block, and contestants have every reason to panic.

Let’s start with the good news. House 1′s plasterer who was rushed to hospital on Monday is back and well again!

He had an elevated heart rate and couldn’t bring it back down. “He’s all good,” Adam and Jolene confirmed.

The bad news? Finding a compliant fire place is giving House 5, site manager Aido (and us!) headaches.

Rick in House 5 is under the impression they’re installing a freestanding fireplace. Tayla wants an in-built fireplace and that’s a whole lot of work for poor dad.

“F--k me. It’s freestanding, that’s it. We’re not changing it,” Rick puts his foot down.

More bad news. A freestanding unit isn’t going to cut it, unless they allow for a bigger safety clearance. There’s simply no space.

In-built it is! And Tayla’s found a third fireplace, a “nut-like looking thing” that’s gone gangbusters on site.

“That there is not only going to win you the room, that’s going to win you The Block,” a chuffed Foreman Dan declares.

“My dinosaur egg fireplace went VIRAL,” grins Tayla.

But without approval of this “funky alien-looking crazy spaceship thing” from site manager Aiden, Tayla’s ambitious egg will be scrapped.

Their plan now is to find a regular fireplace that they will wrap in some sort of material to give it a unique design.

Until Scott Cam brutally vetoes that idea.

“You need a month to do what she’s talking about. No,” Scotty says to Rick, directed at Tayla. “It’s idiotic, make sure you build something that’s achievable.”

“He shut me right down,” Tayla fumes to cameras. “Nah man, I was cut.”

“First of all, it takes like six months to do, but guess what? There are other ways around it,” she insists.

“That’s a challenge to me Scotty, thank you very much,” she bites back.

It’s getting heated. We’ll come back to this in a sec.

It’s a new day and Chantel and Wyatt are full of brilliant ideas, including charging out a neat $500 to borrow the legendary Cursio Brothers.

And that’s not for labour, that’s just for advice. There’s alfresco that need tiling after all.

“We’ve been giving favours out for free since week one,” Wyatt says.

Who on earth is paying Chantel and Wyatt $500 just for a Curiso Brothers tutorial?!

Tayla accused House 1 of false advertising, after Wyatt wouldn’t lend out the Cursios to lay her alfresco tiles.

“Why the f--k would you put a sign on advertising your trades for money, now all of a sudden you say you can’t?” she was fuming.

Tutorials? Yes. Labour. No chance.

Tayla storms back to site, but in a change of pace, giddily shows off her fourth fireplace design, and there’s that headache again.

Her fireplace has been delivered, and bloody hell, what’s this? A FIFTH design?

Somebody pass the Panadol.

The problem is, Nine in Six can’t approve the unit until Tayla provides the proper specs. Not “scribbles”.

Meanwhile, Foreman Dan drops a major bombshell. There’s suddenly an opening for new foreperson because Dan is packing his bags, and he’s out for here.

Wife Dani has gone into labour one week early, and Dan is officially going on paternity leave!

“My head is spinning. What do I do, Scotty?” Dan panics as he rushes off site.

IT’S HAPPENING. DANI IS HAVING THE BABY!

Wednesday night, one team is left “physically ill” while another in tears as competition becomes cut-throat.
