I'm in week six of isolation and my cleaning is getting ridiculous

I'm currently in week six of social isolation and my house has never been cleaner.

Just like everyone else I'm running out of things to do. I've been cooking gourmet dinners that I would have laughed at doing on a weeknight six months ago. I've been baking and getting real joy out of doing it from scratch, but there's only so much cooking you can do — especially when sharing with friends isn't as easy with social isolation.

I've turned to cleaning, decluttering and organising, and it's safe to say that while my home feels pretty spotless, it's getting a bit ridiculous.

After a stressful afternoon at work earlier this week, with dinner already in the oven and no time spent commuting home, I needed something to do.

I decided to scrub our bathroom floor by hand using just a toothbrush, a lot like Cinderella would have done. It was a half-hour job and it was as satisfying to do as you'd think it would be. I'm also not a fan of the mop I have so instead of pulling that out, I mopped the water up with a cloth and a small squeegee.

Last weekend I spent around four hours organising, decluttering and sorting out a cupboard which has pretty much just been crammed full of anything and everything since we moved six months ago.

For weeks now I've been searching out corners to clean, from every skirting board to the windowsills and frames and everything in between. Every touch point is now getting a lot of attention with a quick clean and a disinfect.

While people have been stocking up on toilet paper and pasta, I've been making sure we've got enough vinegar and bi-carb soda for natural cleaning options.

Every morning I've been making the bed — and styling it with perfectly positioned pillows and throws. Tea towels have been strip washed and washing is getting done long before there's a chance for it to pile up.

Of course, there's a lovely satisfying feeling that comes with ticking jobs like these off the list, and it gives us something to do.

But I'm not alone in this either. A quick chat with a few colleagues and it's clear we're all turning to cleaning right now.

"I cleaned my blinds the other day, wiped down each individual one with a wet cloth," explained Maddison.

Kahla added, "I'm washing my pillows as we speak." You should really be washing your pillows a few times a year and if you're keen to do yours, these are some easy to follow instructions.

Scrubbing your floor on your hands and knees is something a few of us have succumbed to as well, with both Kahla and Sarah confirming they have both done it.

"I cleaned and soaked all the cooker stuff and washed my bin," said Sarah.

With isolation looking like it's going to continue for a few more weeks at least, I'll have to find more corners to clean and organise.

Excuse me while I go and look into everything I need to buy to organise my pantry properly...
