The $59 Scandi-style chair causing a stir – and it's not from Kmart or ALDI

Shoppers have been basking in the affordable glow of a homewares and furniture battle happening between discount stores. While Kmart leads the charge and ALDI provides fierce competition, a new player has entered the ring to cause quite a stir.

In the past year, Kmart whipped shoppers into a frenzy with their updated homes ranges, a $35 Scandinavian-inspired shoe rack and bed end and $29 marble-look side table being big hits. ALDI homewares, released through Special Buys, peaked when mothers scrambled to get their hands on an affordable and stylish rocking chair.

The latest budget item with Scandi flair comes courtesy of a surprising addition: The Reject Shop.

It might be where you pick up knick knacks and homewares like a cheap shower hanger, tea lights or glass jars, but they’ve just released a $59 Scandinavian-style arm chair that’s garnered attention on social media.

Over 100 comments included one user responding: "😱😱😱 shut the front door @therejectshop that's stunning!!!" with others commenting "I must have this!" and "Omg shut up and take my money."

The Occasional Chair comes in two colours: Pewter and Mocha, and features 13cm plush cushion seating.

There’s also a cute foot stool available for $20 and they’ve released Industrial metal cage outdoor solar lights for a bargain $5.

The release could signal the store’s move into larger furniture, claiming their slice of the huge market segment champing at the bit for on-trend, affordable homes items.

Kmart and ALDI are being given a run for their money, and more competition means better prices for customers.

The chair is said to be available from tomorrow 15 March, but is already up on the website.
