'Think about yourself': Steph and Gian give advice to their fellow competitors on The Block 2023

"Think about yourself and your own race… don't put that negative energy on anyone else," said Steph on The Official Block Podcast with Shelley Craft this week.

They've gone from a losing streak to the couple to beat, as childhood sweethearts Steph and Gian took home the win for Master Bedroom and Walk-In Robe Week.

So, has their recent success been the stuff of dreams or have things turned even more nightmarish for this couple?

"The last time we spoke to you, you were coming off a bit of a hellish start. Now, do you consider yourselves the favourites in this competition?" Shelley asked.

Gian said the pair have remained focused on the end goal of auction day. "We're our own harshest critics, but we're so happy with what we're creating," he said.

"The more rooms that come together, you're seeing the house become a home and that's what's making us confident," Steph suggested.

"I mean, we're our own favourites but we're just running in our own race".

It's clear Steph and Gian have become real threats in the competition, but taking out top spot has its pitfalls.

"When you first started on the show, there was a fair bit of chatter about the two of you. Do you feel like that's going to start up again now that you're having these wonderful wins and gaining confidence?" Shelley queries.

"It's kind of just what happens. It's what comes with winning", Gian admitted.

Steph didn't hesitate to make her concerns heard.

"What I will say, we were losing before and we still got spoken about. Now that we're winning, God knows what's going to be said.

"Instead of feeling inferior, take it and motivate you to do better for your own room."
