Why Scott Cam is 'nervous' about all five houses selling on The Block's auction day

Scott Cam has hosted The Block for years but there's one day that still makes him nervous: auctions.

With five multi-million-dollar homes in the same cul-de-sac about to go under the hammer, there's not a lot that he can do except hope for the best outcome for everyone and let the agents work their magic.

"I'm always nervous about The Block and the auctions, it's the only day of the year I'm nervous," he told 9Entertainment.

"Because we've got no control and don't know what's going to happen. We're just in the dark like everybody else."

Melbourne has only recently opened back up after the coronavirus pandemic shut the city down again, and clearance rates, along with properties not selling, is already playing in the back of his mind.

"I'm always nervous about not all five selling, that's every single year," Scotty said.

"The clearance rate in Melbourne at the moment is 75 per cent, and that means one of the houses won't sell, but that could mean two of the houses don't sell, so it's a big ask to flog five houses in one suburb."

Scotty admitted it's always a risk selling five homes together. While the market is looking good right now, everything needs to line up for a successful day for everyone.

"Now we've just got to get everything in order — buyers are there, real estate agents are doing their job, reserve prices are right, and maybe they'll make some money," he said.

Another big factor that impacts the results is the auction order and this year Ronnie and Georgia won the power to decide it.

"I think Ronnie and Georgia are fair people," Scotty said.

"They'll care what's best for them to start with and then they'll do what's best for everybody after that. You know they're not going to do anything that's going to hinder someone or sabotage someone."

But speaking of sabotage, the photo of the production schedule almost destroyed the entire show in the opening weeks, and finally on auction night we will find out the truth.

Scotty admitted he is very pleased it's going to be revealed.

"I'm disappointed it's coming out in the last episode when it should have come out in the first episode and it would have been all over," he said.

"But you know, certain people do certain things and act certain ways and it's up to their style and their character about how they go about things. But look, finally the truth is told, and someone tells the truth about what happened and we all find out.

"Of course, I knew from day one who took the photo, but it's not my job to point a finger, it's my job to give them the opportunity to tell the truth."
