How the budget will work on The Block in 2020

No matter what happens on The Block, every year contestants seem to struggle keeping within the budget. Some teams have even had to resort to selling off goods or massively scaling back big plans in previous seasons.
But that could be a thing of the past with a major change to how the budget is run on the show in 2020.
Instead of one lump sum, this year teams will be given a budget per room.
"We've always had major budget issues and we do this year as well, but we try to make it a bit simpler and easier for them this year," host Scott Cam told 9Entertainment. "We're determining how much they need per room and we're giving them a budget per week."
To renovate the guest bedroom, for example, teams will be given a budget of $19,000.
If they spend under that amount they will have extra cash for the next room, but go over and that amount will be deducted from the next room's budget.
"It's a great idea, I think," added Scott. "It's much easier to keep track of it as you go along as opposed to getting to week eight or nine and realising you've spent a lot, which has happened many times in the past. We're trying to avoid that now."
The Block continues tomorrow night at 7.30pm on Nine. Catch up on every episode ever of The Block on 9Now.
