Watch: MAFS groom Al on why he's never had a girlfriend and his foolproof pick-up routine

From the moment we were introduced to Al on Married At First Sight it was clear he was young, a bit of a party boy, and of course, pretty confident about his looks. 

But one thing the 25-year-old has never had is a serious girlfriend, which he joked is starting to worry his parents.

"I've been single pretty much my whole life," he said in his exclusive audition tape, which you can watch at the top of this article. 

"I've never had a serious girlfriend or anything, I don't know why, maybe it's because I'm picky or what. But I've had little flings here and there but nothing sort of came out of it, it just sort of fizzled out. My parents are starting to wonder, 'What is going on with my son?'"

When it comes to his dream girl, the tradie noted that he's looking for someone who's not afraid of a bit of adrenaline. 

"I love snowboarding, surfing, spearfishing, stuff like that, and I'd just love to take a girl with me," he said.

After being single for so long, Al is looking for a woman that he can not only date, but ultimately marry. 

"I've said to myself this whole time, 'If I get a girlfriend, I'm going to have to marry her, she's the girl I want to marry, OK?' I don't want to just mess around for a year or two and then down the line we just break up, because I'm wasting my time, you know? So I'm gonna just keep shopping, keep window shopping," he explained.

The other thing he's looking for is someone who will ground him and pull him into line when he needs it.

But when it comes to the right lady, he's also not afraid to go after one of the other brides if she's his type.

"To be honest, look, if I found her attractive, I would tell her," he admitted.

"I'd tell her but like on the sly and then I'd be like, 'Listen, do you like me?' And then if she is I'd be like, 'Alright, you and me, let's go'."

Al's no stranger to the dating apps either and opened up about his "success rate" and confidence with meeting ladies that way in the video. 

The groom also revealed he's got a pretty foolproof plan for picking up when he's out at nightclubs.

"I start giving her compliments, like even if her eyes are ugly, I'll still compliment her eyes," he admitted.

"I have a tactic where I just stop them for a second, they'll be talking, and I'll be like, 'Woah sorry, but can I just say you are so beautiful, alright continue what you were saying again'."

Al said he "butters them up" with a few cheesy lines but confirmed it really works for him.
