It’s all part of a long-standing family tradition where the TV personality makes “whatever cake his children choose”.
Considering this tradition has carried for years now it’s no surprise that Hamish’s 1.2 million Instagram fans also wait eagerly for the big ‘cake night’ every year.
Hamish kicked things off by marking the big day on his social media: “I’ll be honest with you, this one caught me off guard but I’ve checked [iCalendar] several times and I do indeed owe my daughter “one birthday cake of her choosing” as per family traditional/ancient lore.
“This year it’s based on her favourite show Adventure Time and involves (among other things) a dog whose arms must be able to stretch.
“I’ve never been so jet lagged in my life but the client don’t care about that the client cares about CAKE and cake she will get. If you care to follow, I’ll kick off about 7ish 😘 🥃 🍰.”

The vision was simple: Finn the Human and Jake the Dog from Adventure Time sitting around a campfire. Would it be so simple in execution?
Hamish documented the culinary journey well into the early hours of Sunday morning.
And to help him get through the hours of baking, fondant sculpting and sugaring, he had a few glasses of scotch. Come on guys, it’s tradition after all!
Things got complicated thanks to a red velvet flavour request as well as the addition of one of the edible sculptures’ stretch arm to spell out Rudy’s name.
Voila! Seven hours of baking later and we made it! Instagram/@hamishblakeshotz
But with perseverance, lots of sugar and another pour of scotch, Hamish pulled off an incredible feat: for the first time in his five-year run, he managed to finish the cake before 2am.
He unveiled the finished product with a sweet birthday message to his daughter.
“Happy Birthday to the greatest girl in the world,” the proud father wrote.
