Goodnight

Alyssa Bone

That is a wrap on our coverage of tonight’s World Cup action. Thank you for joining us!

We will be back tomorrow to take you through more of the tournament. See you then.

Kelleher has no regrets about allegiance choice

Alyssa Bone

In just her second game in the green and gold jersey, Jocelyn Kelleher punched 26 points on the scoreboard to help her team to seal victory over England.

To make that individual performance even sweeter, she did so against a team that one month ago she considered electing to represent on the international stage.

“It’s pretty cool stat to have and I’ll hold that really close to my heart,” she told Seven post-game.

“It’s been incredible just to be out here wearing this jersey, so to get 26 points in my second game is pretty epic, I’d say.

I” had the choice between England and Australia, and I had to make that call a couple of weeks before the grand final.

“This jersey is everything I’ve worked for in the last couple of years, it was a dream of mine. I wasn’t ready to give up on that dream yet, and I’m so glad that I didn’t.”

FULL TIME: JIllaroos win 78-0

Alyssa Bone

The Jillaroos have claimed their second-straight dominant win at the World Cup after defeating England 78-0.

Shaylee Bent was the last Australian to get over the tryline, doing so in the 67th minute as she brought her side’s try tally up to 15.

It was yet another classy display from the tournament favourites. Australia will now look to their next match against Wales next Sunday.

Skipper does it again

Alyssa Bone

Isabelle Kelly has gone back to the basics and shown why she is one of the game’s best, cruising over the tryline using a simple attacking strategy.

England were in no mood to get in the face of the Jillaroos as they set up their skipper to score, much to James Graham’s disappointment.

Australia lead 74-0 with three minutes to go.

Concern for England star

Alyssa Bone

There was some big concern on the pitch for England as Fran Goldthorp went done clutching at her wrist in a similar fashion to Julia Robinson.

Players from both team immediately signalled for medics to come to the field but after a short break the English fullback decided she would be OK to play on.

I’m sure she will be checked post-game, hopefully it was just a hard hit for her.

Is this good for the women’s game?

Alyssa Bone

It is not a good night to be an England fan, but gosh, it is a stellar one for Australian Jillaroo fans. Makenzie Weale and Tiana Penitani Gray are the latest Australian to crash over the tryline, bringing the scores up to 70-0.

With a number of big wins like this for Australia, questions will undoubtedly be raised as to whether this is a good thing for the growth of the women’s game. Luke Keary believes it is.

“There’s women all over the world, over in Europe and England, here in Australia, and they know the standard they need to get to because of this Australian team,” he said.

“They’ve set it. It might take three, four, five years, but there’ll be girls everywhere that want to aspire to be rugby league players. And this is the level they need to get to if they want to play on the international stage.”

Church claims her second

Alyssa Bone

A “little bit of champagne rugby league” to get the crowd going in Perth.

The Jillaroos have well and truly set the benchmark for women’s rugby league – and Abbi Church’s latest try is evidence of that.

Jocelyn Kelleher flicked a beautiful pass out to the edge off the back of an England error, with Tamika Upton and Church linking up to finish off the job.

Classy work by Australia. England had no clue how to respond.

“Who or what can stop the Jillaroos?” Andrew Voss asked on Seven.

England great’s high praise for Jillaroos

Alyssa Bone

The Jillaroos coped some flack last week for their “below par” performance against Samoa, even though they went on to claim a 40-0 victory.

But James Graham believes the world has seen enough based on Australia’s opening two games to prove that they are the ones to beat each year.

Olivia Kernick and Quincy Dodd left the England great in awe as they darted over to push Australia’s lead up to 54-0 with 25 minutes left in the match.

He then gave the whole side their props for their achievements in the game.

“There was criticism for the Jillaroos last week because they were a bit below par but not tonight,” he said on Seven.

“It is a really case of try and catch us if you can, which is a real shame as well.

“(England) knew coming into this contest that Australia had far superior athletes and they have the best female competition in the world of rugby league. But England need to go back to the drawing board and look at some of the fundamental errors they’ve made that have played into the hands of the Jillaroos.”

Jillaroos straight over in second half

Alyssa Bone

We are back in action in Perth and the Jillaroos are straight over the tryline.

Tarryn Aiken is the woman to get the job done and Jocelyn Kelleher has nailed the conversion from just off-centre in front of the posts.

Jillaroos coach Jess Skinner admitted before the second half kicked off that she was happy with the performance her team put on in the first half.

She also provided an update on Julia Robinson: “Julia is off to the hospital now so we’ll get more of an update probably post-game.

“She’s In good spirits at least, I heard her laughing in there.”

HALFTIME: Jillaroos claim comfortable lead

Alyssa Bone

The first 35 minutes of football have shown just how classy Australia is across the park, even with a number of well-known talents sitting on the bench.

Jaime Chapman and Jocelyn Kelleher have both claimed two tries, while Julia Robinson, Isabelle Kelly and Abbi Church crossed over for one themselves.

England have only come near the tryline once so far, when Anna Davies charged down the edge but her legs were already in touch before she grounded the ball.

Australia did lose the star power of Julia Robinson midway through the half due to a broken wrist, which will be a cruel blow for the side going forward in this tournament.
