Match abandoned as player goes into cardiac arrest after high-speed collision
A Spanish second division game was abandoned due to a medical emergency after a shocking high-speed collision knocked a player out.
Concerned players waved to medical staff, who rushed to Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel’s aid as he lay prone in the centre circle after being taken out by FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono.

After receiving medical attention on the field, de Miguel was rushed to hospital with serious injuries to his head and chest. He reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest in the ambulance and was resuscitated by paramedics as he was transported to the hospital after the collision and is in a stable condition.
The collision occurred as de Miguel ran forward to chase a long ball and Owono rushed out of his area from the other direction. The goalkeeper mistimed his intervention and appeared to knee de Miguel in the back.
Both players fell flat on the turf as a result of the contact, but de Miguel appeared to be instantly knocked out, while Owono got to his feet in an effort to continue playing.
The referee blew his whistle and showed Owono a straight red card for the act.
While Owono started to walk from the field, his teammates began calling for medical assistance as de Miguel’s condition became clear.
Scores were level at 2-2 when the match was abandoned.
Tenerife confirmed in a statement that the Madrid-born striker was stable “despite the severity of his condition”. He will remain under medical supervision at the University Hospital of Nuestra Senora de Candelaria.
“We want to send all our strength and best wishes to Jesus de Miguel after the serious incident suffered during today’s match,” FC Andorra wrote in a statement shortly after Tenerife’s update.
"We hope he recovers soon. A very strong hug to the player, his family and Tenerife."
