Thanks for joining us for the blog again today!

It all comes down to the final day of play at the SCG with England looking to salvage a 3-2 series and the Aussies searching for 4-1 domination.

We'll have you covered for all of it tomorrow.

Stumps at the SCG

Boland almost forces Bethell into an edge two balls in a row, but the left-hander manages to survive a couple of peaches.

And that brings us to stumps at the SCG for day four!

England hold a lead of 119 runs with two wickets in hand heading into the final day.

Almost time

Bethell chases a wide one from Webster and skies it towards deep cover, but it lands safely and they take a single, which forces Potts to take strike.

The tail-ender survives five balls from the part-time spinner with a few minutes left on day four and England looking to add as many runs as possible.

Talk about a vast difference to the Boxing Day Test.

Carse departs

Boland returns to the attack and makes an impact right away, snicking off Carse to the safe hands of Smith in the slips and the skipper makes no mistake.

England have two wickets in hand with just 15 minutes left in the day's play.

A short-lived cameo for Carse, but every run is crucial at this stage.

Lead passes 100

Carse smokes Head down the ground for a boundary.

"He is showing his intentions," Mark Howard said on Fox Cricket.

The lead is over 100 runs for England now late on day four.

Stokes out for 1

Another wicket for the off-spinner Webster!

An injured Stokes barely moves his feet, plays an awful shot to a loose delivery and edges it straight to Smith, who takes a sharp catch at slip.

Real trouble for England now late on day four.

Smith run out after drinks

Liam O'Loughlin

The first ball after a drinks break and Smith is run out!

Bethell hits the ball to Weatherald at square leg and the miscommunication sees Smith stranded half-way down the wicket and he can't get back in time.

"Absolute chaos at the SCG - a calamitous error," Isa Guha said on Fox Cricket.

That wicket brings an injured Stokes to the crease for England.

Marnus into the attack

Uh oh - Labuschagne is into the attack with his short, seam-up rubbish and bowling to the man he dismissed in the first innings Smith.

"He will be nervous surely," Michael Hussey said on Fox Cricket.

Smith chips one to a vacant point area for a single to get off strike.

"You just don't want to get out to him," Hussey said.

Murphy watching on

Neser drops in a short delivery outside off-stump to Smith, who chips it into a vacant area and the ball rolls down to third-man for a boundary.

"He just controlled it well enough," Michael Hussey said on Fox Cricket.

Head on from the other end bowling some of his part-time off-spin.

"I wonder if they are thinking whether it was the right decision to leave Todd Murphy out," Hussey said as the 12th man watches on from the sidelines.

Smith digging in - for now

Liam O'Loughlin

Neser clips Smith on the pads but there was a clear inside-edge.

The keeper is trying to keep his temperament - which is a rarity - against Webster's dirty off-spin, with Bethell seeing them nicely at the other end.

Rather slow going the past 20 minutes as we head towards the final hour of play.
