Roughead explains why they rejected Murray deal
Adelaide’s list boss Jarryd Roughead has explained the departure of Jordan Butts meant it was always going to be hard to accept Nick Murray being traded to North Melbourne.
“We’re pumped that Nick Murray’s staying with us and being part of our backline in the future,” he said.
“... if we’re in a win now phase we don’t want to lose two key defenders.”
Roughead added that Murray understood the Crows valued him but wasn’t going into specifics around how he felt about the situation.

North boss: ‘I was looking for the ice bath’
North Melbourne list boss Brady Rawlings said the club “tried its hardest” to bring Nick Murray but accepts he’s Adelaide’s player and the power was there with them.
“I was looking for the ice bath by the end of the evening, we had to try and look at a few things to throw at Adelaide and most of that was giving them a good pick in this year’s draft,” he said.
“With that you’re looking at other clubs to switch picks with, but it’s a really tough market to get in this year and get a pick in the top 20 ... he proved a tough year to get into that market.”
Rawlings added he thought there was enough currency still with their offer despite the deal to get Nick Blakey before it. He also said the club will be “fishing in that market” again next year to bring in Murray.

Hawthorn list boss explains late trade
Bodie Ryan was a late trade on deadline day, going from Hawthorn to Melbourne.
Kane Cornes had said on Trade Radio that he thought Ryan was delisted too early by the Hawks and now list boss Mark McKenzie has explained why they opted to send him to Melbourne.
“We had some conversations today about Bodie with his management and Melbourne ... he’s a super character so once we knew that was a chance, very happy to facilitate that and we wish him all the best,” he said.
“He’s a really good character and we hope he goes well at Melbourne.”
Pick 107 went the other way for Ryan.
Cornes’ take on the final 40 minutes
Kane Cornes has revealed his shock at Adelaide’s decision to not trade for Nick Murray with North Melbourne.
The Crows rejected a deal of pick 33 and 49 and North’s first and third round picks for 2027.
“Adelaide are now the hardest team to deal with, they were stubborn,” he said on Trade Radio.
“Nick Murray will never, ever be worth that much ever again.
“I’m surprised that Adelaide didn’t do the deal ... clearly they have a coach under pressure, they need to get better, and their depth has been tested, I understand that. But what was on offer and the work North Melbourne did to make this happen, I’m surprised it didn’t happen. That’s the shock for me.”
