The Brisbane Lions have pulled off a masterclass to break the side's 21-year flag drought and win the 2024 grand final.

Sydney were no match for the Lions, with the final scoreline blowing out to 18.12 (120) - 9.6 (60).

The win fulfilled a redemption arc for the Lions, having lost the grand final to Collingwood last year.

Amazingly, the Lions weren't in in the top eight this season until round 16.

"I can't put it into words, I bloody love this group," Lachie Neale told 7.

"After everything went through last year and the start of this year, no words can describe how proud I am of this footy club and this group."

Sydney started the match on fire, kicking the first two goals through Tom Papley and Will Hayward.

But from there the Lions kicked into gear, leading by eight points at the first break.

The second quarter started with Kai Lohmann kicking his third goal of the match before the Lions went on an onslaught and led 11.7 (73) - 4.3 (27) at half-time.

Sydney were officially no chance going into the sheds and the domination continued with the Lions up by 73 points at three quarter time.

The Swans managed to drag the margin back a fraction by full-time, but it was Joe Daniher having the last hurrah, kicking his second goal of the match with minutes left on the clock.

Daniher's major would be the final of the game, and the big forward was mobbed by his teammates after it before cameras panned to his parents crying in the crowd.

Lohmann finished with four goals, as did Callum Ah Chee.

Will Ashcroft was awarded the Norm Smith medal.

For Swans coach John Longmire it continues a horrible trend, who hasn't won a grand final since 2012. The Swans have now been in four deciders since that victory and lost every time.
