The best royal family Christmas cards of 2025

The countdown is on until Christmas and members of the world's royal families are getting into the festive spirit.

Each year, we get a glimpse of the royals' Christmas cards when they release them to the public or start sending them out to those lucky enough to receive one.

The latest to share their Christmas photos are members of the Danish royal family, which is headed by our own Aussie-born Queen Mary.

Danish royal family

But it was her brother-in-law and his family whose turn it was to get festive, with Prince Joachim of Denmark and his wife Princess Marie sending greetings from their adopted home in the US.

"Christmas greetings from Washington D.C.," they wrote in a post which was shared on the official Instagram page of The Danish Royal House.

The couple shared a carousel of relaxed photos taken at the home they share with their two children, Count Henrik and Countess Athena.

The first showed the prince in a Santa hat with the family dog, while in another photo he was joined by their two children.

The third photo showed Athena out in the snow while the final image was of Princess Marie proudly showing off a roast she had prepared.

Prince Joachim is the youngest son of Denmark's former long-running monarch Queen Margrethe II, who abdicated in January 2024 after a 52-year reign, and is the younger brother of her eldest son and heir King Frederik.

Prince Joachim has served as Denmark's military attaché and deputy defence attaché in the US since September 2023, and it was recently announced his stint had been extended until August 2027.

He also has two older sons, Count Nikolai and Count Felix, from his first marriage to Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg.

He and his family will reportedly stay in the US for Christmas and not return to Denmark to celebrate with the royals.

Reports of a royal rift emerged in 2022 when Queen Margrethe stripped Prince Joachim's four children of their royal titles.

All were born prince and princesses but they lost their titles and HRH status in a move that reportedly was done with very little consultation with Prince Joachim, who has since largely retreated from royal life.

He travelled to Denmark for his brother's low-key coronation in January 2024 but his wife and youngest children did not attend.

The British royal family

The Prince and Princess of Wales released a relaxed photo of their family of five out in nature to share their Christmas greetings.

The image, by one of their favourite photographers Josh Shinner, continued the informal, outdoor theme that have become a custom for the down-to-earth royals.

It was released on December 18 via the couple's official Instagram page.

"Wishing everyone a very Happy Christmas," the simple caption read.

The photo was reportedly taken in April, during the British springtime at Norfolk, where their country home Amner Hall is located on the monarch's Sandringham estate.

It forms part of a suite of photos that have already been released to mark other milestones in the Wales' family.

It comes after other members of the British royal family revealed their Christmas cards and photos.

The Governor of Queensland was the first to share an image of the 2025 Christmas card she received from the Princess Royal and her husband Sir Timothy Laurence.

The card features a photo of the couple riding in a horse-drawn carriage in Sark, in the UK's English Channel, earlier this year.

"With best wishes for a happy and peaceful Christmas and New Year," was printed opposite the photo on the card, which was signed simply "From Anne and Tim".

Dr Jeannette Young shared an image of the card on the Governor of Queensland Facebook page late yesterday.

"The arrival of a special Christmas card from The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence has set a festive tone at Government House," the post said.

"Her Excellency was honoured to recently host Her Royal Highness Princess Anne during her official visit for the Royal Australian Corps of Signals Centenary celebrations, when HRH also presided over a special Investiture Ceremony to present the Royal Victorian Medal (Silver) to Senior Patrol Officer Stephen Canning RVM."

The lack of titles and pretensions on Princess Anne's card was praised by the British press.

Some royal experts also saw it as being in stark contrast to other royals, such as Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, who reportedly had a member of staff announce her as she walked into a room during an interview with Harper's Bazaar recently.

Days earlier, King Charles and Queen Camilla unveiled their holiday offering.

Their card features a photograph taken earlier this year during the royal couple's State Visit to Italy.

Buckingham Palace said the photo was taken in the grounds of Villa Wolkonsky, Rome, to mark The King and Queen's 20th wedding anniversary in April.

They are smiling with their arms linked in the image.

The Queen is wearing a white and beige coat dress by Anna Valentine which she paired with a Lily of the Valley brooch while the King looks dashing in a blue pin-striped suit and grey tie.

"Wishing you a very happy Christmas and New Year," the card says.

Their card features a photograph taken earlier this year during the royal couple's State Visit to Italy.

Buckingham Palace said the photo was taken in the grounds of Villa Wolkonsky, Rome, to mark The King and Queen's 20th wedding anniversary in April.

Luxembourg's Grand Ducal family

His Royal Highness Gillaume V, Grand Duke of Luxembourg, only started his reign in October 2025, following the abdication of his father Henri.

This year marks the first Christmas of his reign so the people of Luxembourg were eagerly awaiting the release of the image.

And they were not disappointed, with a carousel of gorgeous family photos of Gillaume, his wife, Stéphanie, Grand Duchess of Luxembourg, and their two children, Prince Charles and Prince François, uploaded to the official Instagram page of Grand Ducal Court of Luxembourg overnight.

Front and centre was the Grand Duke's eldest son and heir, Prince Charles.

The first image showed the family outdoors in front of a large Christmas tree.

Stéphanie is holding Prince Charles, who in turn is clutching a stuffed reindeer, while the Grand Duke smiles broadly as Prince François sits atop his shoulders.

In the second image they are seen walking side by side, while in the third, the royal brothers are holding red baubles used to decorate the Christmas tree.

The final image is a close up of Prince Charles, who at five is now the world's youngest royal heir.

The accompanying post says, "In this festive season, the Grand Ducal Couple is happy to show you their new family photos.

"The Grand Duke and Grand Duchess wish you all a happy holiday season."

The Jordanian royal family

Jordan's royal family, headed by King Abdullah II, 63, and his 55-year-old wife Queen Rania, put on a delightful and colour-matched appearance for their 2025 Christmas card, which was quite a departure from their usual offerings.

Not only did the photo used for the card feature three generations of royals, including two new arrivals, but it was much more relaxed than in previous years.

The photo features 10 family members, all dressed in green and blue hues. They were seen walking in the garden of the royal residence, Al-Maquar in Aman, Jordan.

The image was shared on the official Instagram accounts of the Royal Hashemite Court and Queen Rania.

"Our wishes for you a new year that carries peace and branches of hope that spreads between generations," the caption read.

"May the bonds of family and love continue to grow in the year ahead."

It has been a very busy year for the family, who celebrated the arrival of two royal babies this year.

Queen Rania is seen carrying Princess Iman, the daughter of Crown Prince Hussein and Princess Rajwa, while King Abdullah was holding Amina, the daughter of Princess Iman and her husband Jameel Thermiotis.

Both babies were born this year.

Also pictured were the youngest of the royal couple's four children, Princess Salma and Prince Hashem.

The Spanish royal family

King Felipe VI of Spain and his wife Queen Letizia have shared their 2025 Christmas card.

The royal couple were pictured outdoors with their two daughters, the heir to the throne Princess Leonor and her sister, Infanta Sofía.

King Felipe, 57, started his reign in 2014 after his father, King Juan Carlos, abdicated.

King Felipe and Queen Letizia, a former TV news anchor, are popular in Spain. Each year, the Spanish people look forward to the release of their annual Christmas card.

Princess Leonor, 20, is pictured sitting beside her mother while her younger sister, Infanta Sofía, 18 stands beside her father, who hugs her warmly.

The photo was reportedly taken on October 25.

"Merry Christmas and a happy New Year 2026," is typed on the card, which was signed by each family member alongside a handwritten note, which said, "With all our affection and best wishes".

The Monegasque royal family

Monaco's royal family shared their Christmas card image, which showed Prince Albert II, his wife Princess Charlene and their twin children, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, seated in front of a Christmas tree inside the Prince's Palace.

A roaring fire can be seen in the background while the family dog Harley also made an appearance.

The family's formal attire marked a departure from the previous year's card, which saw them dressed more casually.
