Meet Noémie Fox, Jess Fox's equally talented sister making her Olympic debut at Paris 2024

When the name Noémie Fox appeared on the list of slalom canoeists heading to the Olympic Games Paris 2024, the question on many lips was 'does Jess Fox have a sister?'

The answer, obviously, is yes.

Just three years younger than Olympic gold medalist Jess, 27-year-old Noémie is a talented slalom canoeist in her own right, having competed at the international level since 2013.

Their skills on the water make sense when you look at the family these women came from, and how well they've both been trained by their coach – who just happens to be their mum.

Who is Jess Fox's sister?

Born in France on March 19, 1997, to Richard Fox and Myriam Fox-Jerusalmi, Noémie is almost three years younger than sister Jessica.

Their dad is a former world champion slalom canoeist who won eleven medals at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships during his career, while their mum snagged ten medals at the championships and a bronze medal at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.

If that wasn't enough, Noémie's aunt Rachel Crosbee was also a world championship silver medalist.

Saying that slalom canoeing was in this kid's blood (and her sister's) is an understatement.

Like Jess, Noémie grew up around the sport and started competing competitively at age 14.

By that time the Fox family had relocated from Marseille, France, to Penrith, New South Wales and mum Myriam was coaching both of her daughters in the sport.

"Although my mum has had the most prominent influence on my career, my whole family has contributed to get me where I am and keep me inspired," Noémie said, via the International Canoe Federation (ICF) website.

She made her senior international debut in 2015 at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup Champrionship in Krakow Poland, but her sights were always set on The Olympics, especially after Jess made her debut at London 2012 at age 18.

Competing at an elite, international level in the exact same sport as your sister could cause some friction in a sibling relationship, but Jess and Noémie have a very friendly rivalry.

"We've made great sparring partners and we've both pushed each other forward, quite a long way," Noémie told The West Australian in 2024.

"There's something special about being able to just lash out on her because I know she'll forgive me."

Jess feels the same way, telling the outlet, "She's tough — I don't like going head-to-head in racing with Noemie, she's a very fierce competitor.

"In training it's been so great having each other, because we push each other."

Of course they get fed up with each other from time to time but with their whole family supporting them and mum Myriam coaching, there's nothing but love in the Fox clan.

Paris 2024 marks Noémie's thrilling Olympic debut, 12 years after Jess competed for the first time at London 2012.

This moment has been a long time coming for the younger Fox, who will compete alongside her big sister in the women's slalom kayak cross event on August 2 to 5.

It's the first time this event has had a spot on the Olympic schedule and the first time the sisters will face one another at The Olympics - definitely an event to keep an eye on!

Noémie Fox's partner

Though most of Noémie's social media presence is dedicated to her sport, she also shares some peeks into her private life on Instagram - like her relationship with French athlete Titouan Dupras.

A fellow slalom canoeist, the pair appear to have been dating for several years now, with loved-up Instagram posts going all the way back to 2017.

Based on their social media posts, it looks like Dupras moved to Australia to be closer to Noémie several years back and he is currently a Paddle Australia Kayak Cross Coach.

Though they regularly share photos together on their respective Instagram profiles, the couple seem quite private when it comes to their romance.

At the time of writing, Noémie has three medals to her name, all from the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships.

She won her first medal in 2017, taking home a silver in the kayak cross event two years after her international debut.

In 2019 she bagged her first gold in the canoeing slalom C-1 event, then snagged a second in 2023 for her performance in the canoeing slalom K-1 event.

Now Noémie is looking to earn herself her first Olympic medal in the women's slalom kayak cross event at Paris 2024.
