Popular Aldi product Farmdale Full Cream Long Life Milk in the one-litre carton is the subject of a national recall that has recently been expanded into another state.

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) and state food safety authorities issued the notice after detecting “microbial contamination”, the recall notice explains, which can cause “premature spoilage”.

“Food products that are spoilt may cause illness/injury if consumed,” it states.

The alert was originally published on October 23 and impacted batches were sold throughout Victoria and South Australia.

However, an official update released by FSANZ and the NSW Food Authority on October 26 confirmed the distribution zone had widened into regional New South Wales.

Investigators confirmed that stock from the affected production run slipped into two border-region stores: Aldi Albury and Aldi Lavington.

Customers are advised to look specifically for one-litre Farmdale Full Cream cartons carrying the best-before date marking of 05JUN27.

No other dates or Farmdale milk varieties such as skim, light, or plant-based alternatives are covered by the current recall.

Regulators have warned consumers not to drink or cook with the milk. Anyone holding the affected batch can return the cartons to any Aldi store for a full cash refund, with no proof of purchase or receipt required. Aldi has asked anyone with health concerns after drinking the product to contact their local GP or seek medical advice immediately.

This isn’t the first time Farmdale milk has been the subject of a recall. In 2020, Full Cream three litre milk from the shelves of its ACT supermarkets and some NSW stores due to potential E. coli contamination.

With rising grocery bills keeping household budgets tight, long-life UHT milk has become one of the biggest supermarket volume movers across the country, as families regularly buy whole cartons in bulk to stash away in cupboards for morning coffees, tea, and cereals.

Because long-life milk can typically sit in the pantry for months, food safety regulators are particularly concerned that contaminated cartons might remain undetected in homes for an extended period.
