Welsh TV host Gabby Logan says she threatened to leave her husband when menopause hit, describing a "meltdown" she experienced one morning after breakfast.

"It was over something small, like the kids not clearing up after breakfast," the BBC reporter told The Times

"That was probably my lowest point, my mini-crisis. It was the time when I was feeling, this is not me and this isn't how I cope with things."

She said she told her twins Lois and Reuben when they were 14 that she was considering moving out of the family home into her own apartment in Beaconsfield, leaving them close to tears.

She admitted the plan was "totally random" and she later changed her mind on the dramatic choice.

Gabby, 51, who has been married to former Scotland rugby player Kenny Logan for 23 years, says she realised she was perimenopausal when she was 47 but wasn't prepared for full menopause and the emotional impact of realising she'd reached "the midpoint" in her life.

Gabby has written about that difficult moment in her new book The Midpoint Plan, out on July 3.

She not only struggled at home but experienced mood fluctuations at work, chronicling a "couple of incidents."

"There's one guy I'd always had a great relationship with and he said something really benign and I was, like, 'Oh, just f--k off,'" she said.

"I still feel terrible about it. Luckily I didn't go around telling my bosses to f--k off or that would probably have been the end of me."

The mother-of-two was eventually placed on hormone replacement therapy to help manage menopause.

"I expected that things would change physically as you get older, but I wasn't prepared for feeling so unenthused, anxious, snappier and short-tempered," Gabby said.

"I had a lot to be grateful for, but that compounds it because then you're thinking, well, what's wrong with me?"

Gabby said has also taken up a new hobby of playing recorder to "keep testing herself" and says she is now focusing on embracing mid-life.

"There's loads to be excited about," she added.

Gabby said she has written The Midpoint Plan to help others by sharing "useful advice, anecdotes and action plans and start to see The Midpoint as a time to thrive not just to survive."

"I've written it as something you can dip in and out of when issues or questions arise; to be kept on your bedside table, on the shelf in the kitchen or in the loo," she said on social medial.

"And as well as learnings from the podcasts there is a lot of extra content, especially my experiences in a range of topics."
