Australians are shocked to discover they've been cutting and eating mangos the wrong way.

A new series of social media posts are explaining the 'right' way, which begins with a new cutting technique that seems so simple, we can't believe we have done this before.

Aussie mango lover Ashleigh Goodchild showcased the new technique on TikTok, with surprising results.

This technique works best on firmer varieties of mangos such as R2E2 and Calypso, both of which are currently in season and are delicious.

The previous technique involved cutting the mango cheeks off first, then the strip of skin around the seed. Many would cut a checked pattern into the mango cheeks before pushing them out still attached to the skin and eating them like that.

The new technique flies in the face of this.

As demonstrated on numerous TikTok videos, the 'correct' way suggests the mango should be cut right side up all around the middle.

You then grab hold of either side and start twisting them gently in one direction, with one side coming right off the seed easily.

You can then eat the mango using a spoon!

The remaining side with the seed isn't always as easy to prepare and needs the seed gently pried out.

One mistake some mango lovers make using this technique is to squeeze too hard while twisting the mango leaving them with a mushy mess.

Patience and gentleness is key to making this technique work, and faith. If you believe that first half will come off easily, it will.

Although not all of her followers are convinced.

"Then how do you get the seed out of the other side ? Ok I'll be back for that," one commented.

Another suggested: "This is a revelation. A scoop of vanilla ice cream in the hole!!!!"

"Mangos are soft though so I feel like you would squish it turning it," one commented, to which she responded: "Firmness is key."

Another said: "I have tried both ways... gotta say there's something about eating it in cubes then slurping off the seed that hits right."

This technique is also perfect for using the mango in fruit salads because you can simply scoop the flesh out of each half and use it for whatever you like. And you can then eat the remaining parts including the seed which usually has some mango remaining on it.
