Supermarket Sleuths: The pantry staple selling for less than $15 this week at Aldi
Thinking up ways to bulk up meals is key to saving money and keeping everyone feeling full and satisfied.
One of the best ways to do this is to add rice or pasta to your favourite dishes.
I've found rice to be the most versatile when it comes to this and now that my daughter is eating gluten free, it's our new staple ingredient and in this week's Supermarket Sleuths I found rice being sold in bulk for an incredible price.

Our favourite rice is basmati, which I have read is healthier than other varieties of white rice. So you can imagine my delight when I spotted basmati on sale at my local Aldi.
And it wasn't just their regular packs of basmati rice that were on sale, but a bulk purchase of 5kg for $14.99, which means you are paying about $2.99 per kilo for it.

Aldi also now sells instant rice in microwaveable packs, which I usually keep a few of in the pantry for snacks and quick dinners.
Their Imperial Grains range in basmati is $1.69 for a 250g pack.

Comparing these prices to Coles and Woolies, both have basmati bulk buys on offer.
At Coles you can pick up Maharajah's Choice Basmati rice in a 5kg pack for $23.00, which means you pay $4.60 per kilo.
At Woolies, basmati is selling for $6 per kilogram in a 5kg pack of Riviana Basmati Long Grain.
This leaves Aldi the clear winner when it comes to the lowest priced basmati.

You'll find it in the Specials section at the front of the store but get in quick because it will likely sell out, as all of Aldi's best bargins typically do.
IGA doesn't have a basmati bulk buy at the moment but it does have 1kg packs selling for just $4 which is also pretty good.
