KFC Australia has confirmed its new breakfast menu line up is now available in two additional states, following a successful trial at Sydney Airport. But the rest of the country will have to hold their orders for now.

Sixteen Gold Coast restaurants and 13 Melbourne CBD locations are now offering the full Morning Meals menu that travellers traversing Sydney’s domestic and international airport terminals have been sampling since early 2026.

The fast food giant announced a nationwide breakfast roll out in July, however have proceeded more cautiously than customers expected, proving to be more selective about where and when the Morning Meals menu is made available.

Lucky customers on the Gold Coast and in the Melbourne CBD can now sample KFC Morning Meal menu items such as bacon and egg rolls, BLTs with avocado, chicken, bacon and egg rolls, chicken toasties, breakfast wraps with chicken, bacon, and egg, bacon and egg pockets, and breakfast burgers.

KFC is also selling avocado toast as part of the new menu. And yes, there are hash browns.

All the chicken menu items on the Morning Meals menu come in KFC’s Original Recipe or can be swapped out for a Zinger fillet. Barista coffee is also on offer.

KFC Breakfast will be available from 6am at participating restaurants and can be ordered in stores or via the KFC app.

It isn’t known if and when the new menu line up will roll out across the country as promised.

KFC’s cautious approach to its breakfast menu roll out is understandable. Making the leap to deep-fried chicken for breakfast was always going to be a gamble, even though fast food rivals have successfully launched breakfast menu line-ups, with McDonald’s Australia leading the way.

Maccas launched its breakfast menu in 1987 and it was soon elevated with the addition of McCafe in 1993 with barista-made coffee and pastries rounding out the line-up.

McDonald’s has since simplified its breakfast offering, focusing on core items including McMuffins, including a recent Birdie range which included chicken McMuffins and wraps.

Fast food lovers can also purchase breakfast menu items from Hungry Jacks, Guzman y Gomez, Oporto, and Red Rooster.

Despite its slower than expected roll out, KFC has two things working in its favour. Firstly, Australian consumers eating habits have radically changed over the past several years.

Brand expert Amanda Stevens previously explained to nine.com.au: “Consumers are eating very differently. Three square meals a day is just very antiquated. And people are busy, and people are tired. If you doubt that, just ask them.

“So convenience is winning with consumers right now.”

And secondly, chicken has become a popular way to increase the protein content of meals. QSR (Quick Service Restaurants) chicken sales are expected to top $4 billion by 2032, according to the latest data.

Consumer psychologist and Thinkerbell founder Adam Ferrier previously KFC’s expansion into breakfast is “partially driven by the protein movement, where chicken is perceived to be a healthy, protein-rich option”.
