Dubbed “Morning Meals”, planning is already underway to bring the new AM lineup to multiple locations nationwide.

Specific launch dates and locations for the new morning lineup have not yet been released.
A KFC spokesperson told nine.com.au: “Following the finger lickin’ good response from our Sydney Airport Morning Meals trial, KFC is continuing to work with our franchise partners to bring Morning Meals to more restaurants across the country, giving more fans the chance to start their day the KFC way.

“Keep your eyes peeled for where Morning Meals might pop up next, because Aussies know there’s no wrong time to go full chicken with KFC.”
The spokesperson said the response to KFC’s Sydney Airport breakfast menu trial had been a hit.
“The response has shown there’s a real appetite for KFC-inspired morning moments, with fans embracing new ways to enjoy their favourite chicken all throughout the day,” they said.
The future of fast food breakfast in Australia
Brand expert Amanda Stevens told nine.com.au KFC had “obviously done their research” on fast food breakfast.
“McDonald’s is a proof of concept for it,” she said.
“I think the airport trial made sense because it signalled to the market they weren’t just launching breakfast. Consumers are eating very differently.

“Three square meals a day is just very antiquated. And people are busy, and people are tired. If you doubt that, just ask them.
“So convenience is winning with consumers right now.”
Consumer psychologist and Thinkerbell founder Adam Ferrier told nine.com.au KFC’s timing for their breakfast menu roll out made sense.
“Breakfast is the last great frontier for fast food. McCafé was incredibly successful for McDonald’s and was an Australian invention, GYG has done brekkie pretty successfully; these chains have helped change consumer attitudes towards breakfast and fast foods, so now KFC at breakfast doesn’t seem like a bad option.”
He said far from impacting main rival McDonald’s, if anything, “it might help McDonald’s as it further legitimises fast food as a breakfast option”.
“KFC is a very well-known brand with high desirability and a cheap price point,” Ferrier continued.

“Stretching this brand into breakfast makes perfect sense as there’s no reason why people would have KFC for breakfast. This is also partially driven by the protein movement, where chicken is perceived to be a healthy, protein-rich option (the fried batter around the chicken - not so much!)”
Stevens said the inclusion of avocado on toast as part of KFC’s breakfast menu was likely “strategic”.
“So the avocado on toast is really like the surprise menu item that could make or break it. It’s serving two purposes. One, if they can get it right, then it will be a winning menu item.

“But what it’s also doing is the heavy lifting in terms of making it acceptable for people to go there. Like when McDonald’s released their salads range.”
Not to mention the low price point, now $3.95, which is further enticing to customers.
Fast food a cost-of-living winner
Fast food retailers, including KFC and McDonald’s, are currently thriving, despite cost-of-living pressures, with customers opting for fast, convenient, affordable meals amid their busy schedules.
“Life’s pretty busy and hectic and so this is winning with consumers right now,” Stevens said.
KFC’s parent company Collins Food Limited reporting a 7.6 per cent increase in revenue to $1.24 billion so far in 2026. This follows their exit from Taco Bell which allowed them to streamline their portfolio and focus on a KFC-led expansion and profitability.
McDonald’s reported a 3.8 per cent increase in sales for the first quarter of 2026.
It isn’t just KFC and McDonald’s offering breakfast menu items to customers. Other fast food retailers also offer a full breakfast menu and coffee at select locations until 10.30-11am each day.

Hungry Jacks also offers a full early morning menu including breakfast wraps, muffins, and Turkish roll sandwiches including the Mega BBQ Brekky Wrap and the such as the Bacon & Egg Turkish Brekky Roll in addition to coffee via Jack’s Cafe.
Subway also sells breakfast items including their Bacon, Egg & Cheese, Ham, Egg & Cheese Wrap, and Egg & Cheese wraps. Coffee is also served in some locations.

Oporto’s breakfast menu includes their Breakfast Bowl with an egg, rice, avocado, and bacon, breakfast burgers, wraps and hash browns.
Guzmen y Gomez serves a breakfast menu that includes Brekkie Burritos, Guac on Toast, Cheese Quesadilla, and Brekkie Tacos, and barista-made coffee.
Late night trade is key
In addition to expanding the new menu to multiple locations, it has been reported that KFC is also planning to extend its opening hours to take advantage of customer demand later in the evening.
Some KFC outlets in city locations now stay open until the early hours of the morning and even operate 24 hours, as do multiple McDonald’s locations.
Ferrier explained this is to take advantage of customer’s increasingly fragmented schedules.

“Three meals a day is a thing of the past. People are snacking and consuming food throughout the day - hence longer opening hours and an ever-changing menu throughout the day.
“Matching the meal type to the occasion is a new type of delivery headache for fast food retailers. ”
KFC’s spokesperson confirmed: “There’s no wrong time for KFC, and we know that consumer dining habits are changing.
“Whether it’s fuelling the morning rush, bringing mates and family together over a bucket, or satisfying a late-night craving, we know our fans love finding new moments to enjoy their favourite chicken.
“That’s why we’re always looking for more ways to serve up finger lickin’ good feeds whenever the craving strikes.”
