End of an era: Allen's officially axes one of its most polarising lollies
Nestlé Australia, the parent company of Allen's confectionery, has confirmed the end of one of Australia's most divisive treats.
Allen's Black Cats stand-alone confectionery bags have been removed from supermarket shelves, much to the distress of aniseed jellies lovers.
As recently as October, Aussie shoppers were able to purchase 170g bags of Allen's Black Cats from major supermarkets including Coles, Woolworths, and IGA.

Now they are nowhere to be seen, and some fans have taken to Reddit to express their dismay.
"Black Cats – discontinued line at Woolworths?" one consumer shared on Reddit's 'Woolworths' thread.
"A controversial product – either loved and hated, rarely neutral," they wrote. "Has anyone spotted them in store? I asked at my local, and was told they'd be back but they're no where to be found.
"I also stopped into another store and couldn't see them on the shelves. When I search in the Woolworths app, it says 'unavailable'. Anyone have insider knowledge?"

Nestlé Head of Marketing Confectionery, Shannon Wright, told nine.com.au: "Black Cats haven't gone anywhere – fans can still enjoy them in the Allen's Party Mix, where they remain a firm favourite.
"Allen's is always listening to what people enjoy, and we know they like a mix of their classic favourites and something new. That's why we rotate which Allen's lollies are available as standalone packs.
"We'll keep looking for the right moment to bring Black Cats back as a single‑flavour pack, and if fans want to see them return, we're always listening on our socials – so let us know."
Allen's Black Cats are black liquorice or aniseed flavour and are usually placed next to other black liquorice treats such as Darrell Lea Original Twists and Darrell Lea Super Soft Liquorice.
This isn't the first time stand-alone bags of Black Cats have been discontinued, only to be brought back due to customer demand.

They first got their own stand-alone bag in 2020, much to the delight of confectionery lovers.
During this most recent hiatus from Allen's stand-alone range, you can find them in the Allen's Party Mix which includes Snakes, Milk Bottles, Bananas, Frogs Alive, Peaches & Cream, Black Cats, Strawberries & Cream, and Jelly Babies.
Newer treats includes Allen's Sour Mix made up of Frogs Alive, Watermelon Wedge, Apple Car, Peach Lips, Cola Bottles and Pineapples, as well as Allen's Nesquik Shakes.
Allen's has also released a delicious new mix of their Red Ripperz treats in Juicy Apple and Intense Grape flavours, and Sweet & Sour Killer Pythons.
And Allen's Berry Bunch hit supermarket shelves in 2025, a mix of raspberry, blackcurrant and strawberry, sugar-coated gummy chews.

Between 2015 and 2023 Allen's discontinued Green Frogs, Spearmint Leaves, and more recently Fantales, although Spearmint Leaves have returned periodically.
