Otter predicts the winner of 2015's State of Origin will be unspeakable cuteness

Don't watch the adorable video above unless you want to know the winner of the 2015 State of Origin series.

But do watch the adorable video above if otters make your heart melt and/or you don't care about footy.

Lou, an Asian small-clawed otter who resides at Sea Life Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast, predicted this year's Origin victor when he was given a teeny-weeny ball and teeny-weeny rugby field with teeny-weeny blue and maroon goal posts at either end.

Presumably Lou's prediction is 100 percent accurate, because why would a critter so cute ever lie to us?

Sceptical Blues fans might rightly question the accuracy of a Queensland otter's prediction — but Lou was actually born on neutral territory, in South Australia.

Lou lives at the aquarium with his (way more terrifyingly named) brothers Mayhem and Kaos, and usually prefers playing with a golf ball. But it only took him about a week and a half to become a pro with a rugby ball, according to Sea Life senior mammal trainer Jess Heading.

The "State of Otter-gin" wasn't just staged for cutesies. Asian small-clawed otters are listed as a vulnerable species, and Sea Life Mooloolaba hopes to raise awareness of their plight.

The species is threatened by pollution, exploitation from the fur trade and habitat loss across its native turf, which stretches from India, up into China and down through South-East Asia.

It'd be a tragedy if the species went extinct — and not just because we'd have to find another cuddly animal to predict the winners of our major sporting events.
