Exclusive: Harold Perrineau on the new season of the 'very scary' From

Stan's thriller series From unravels the mystery of a nightmarish town in middle America that traps all those who enter.

As the unwilling residents fight to keep a sense of normalcy and search for a way out, they must also survive the threats of the surrounding forest – including the terrifying creatures that come out when the sun goes down.

Today the series returns for a second season which promises to be as frightening as the first.

Harold Perrineau, best known as his role of Michael Dawson on the TV drama Lost, plays Sherriff Boyd Stevens in From.

The actor recently spoke to 9Entertainment about his role and why he is looking forward to frightening audiences in From.

"I'm super, super proud of From," says Perrineau. "People really responded [to the show], so we've got a chance to go back and tell another part of that story. This is thing we strive for, as artists and actors, is the chance to really just keep playing with your craft."

The series is anchored by Perrineau's Sherriff Boyd, and the show's second season explores more of the towns characters both new and old as well as the mysterious forces that have trapped all of them in this town.

At the end of the first season, a bus of unknowing town guests arrived in town, providing a new batch of characters subject to the town's very scary secrets.

From has moved beyond the discovery of the first season and started to uncover something more unsettling than even the ravenous monsters that continue to hunt in the dark of night.

"In Season 1, there's the real world building. But Season 2, the setup stuff is over. Now, everything just is coming at them like lightning. There's barely a chance to figure out what the last thing was before something new is coming in your direction," Perrineau explains.

Season 2 picks back up with Boyd stuck in a well, where he was teleported after stepping into a tree at Sara's (Avery Konrad) urging.

On the cliffhanger, Perrineau says, "Boyd's trapped in the well. How did he get there? At the time of shooting Season 1, he was just literally enclosed in a wall, but now people understand it's a well. But now, people are going to be asking 'Okay, okay. What's happening now?'"

The opening moments of the new season feature Boyd clawing his way out of the well and beginning to understand that there is more out there that he'll have to contend with.

"Season 2 moves at a breakneck speed that makes it super scary. It's one of those things like you're running as fast as you can, but it feels like you are about to stop being able to breathe."

"So whatever is chasing you is about to catch you. It just stays scary the whole time."

One of Season 2's new characters is Kaelen Ohm, who's just the little bug queen, is such a cool character."

"She's always got some little animal that she's befriended. It's like, "That's a scorpion, right?" She's like, "Yeah, but aren't they lovely?"

Even in From's first season, it was still one of the scariest shows on television. The expectation that the second season will be even scarier will no doubt delight fans.

Now the season is in its second season and a bonefide hit series, Perrineau looks forward to discovering the direction that the series will go.

"After Season 1, I didn't even know where it was going to go, and so when we started Season 2, I really had zero idea that this was the way it was going to go," laughs Perrineau.

But From isn't the first successful series Perrineau has been part of.

One Lost, Perrineau played Michael, one of the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 who crashes on the show's mysterious island with his son Walt, played by Malcolm David Kelley.

"I considering myself as a really lucky guy. Look. I work really hard, and I work around a lot of people that work really, really hard. But I have been one of the most fortunate guys I know. To get the chance to be a part of so many really interesting pieces".

Lost is often remembered for its well-debated ending. Over the course of its six-year run, the show's producers assured fans they had the ending in mind from the series' inception.

When Lost concluded in 2010, fans were unconvinced that the ending was predetermined.

And although discussions of From's eventual conclusion have been discussed, Perrineau is focused on the current season.

"All of us in the cast are like, 'What do you think? We're going to be here forever?' There has been lots of discussion."

"But right now, we just focus on Season 2. People are talking about Season 3. We really, really look forward to and hope that that's what we get a chance to do. But we'll see, from this season here, how this goes, which I'm expecting it to go well because it read really well."

"Then we'll find out about the next one. We're all fingers crossed. We want to keep telling the story."
