For some lucky couples, that fantasy has become a reality – giving them the opportunity to upgrade their living situations and snag themselves their ultimate dream home.

Young mum Tara and her partner TJ were struggling to make ends meet when they won $US5 million ($7.8 million) from a $20 scratch card.
In Season 12, they enlisted the help of My Lottery Dream Home to move them out of their two-bedroom apartment and into their dream home.
While anytime is a good time to win millions of dollars, Tara added the prize winning was "perfect timing".
"We were living paycheck-to-paycheck," TJ explained.
"With two kids in an apartment, it's just awful, and we just had a newborn plus three dogs, it's a tight squeeze."
They allocated a modest $US900,000 ($1.4 million) budget to buy their dream Californian home.

After touring different houses, the couple landed on a $1.34m home in Orange County.
Located at the end of a quiet cul de sac, it was the perfect location for their kids to grow up and play in.
With its own bar, a luxury kitchen and a backyard almost twice the size of the other houses it was hard to look past the property, but of course, nothing is perfect...

The home had a steep set of stairs connecting the upper and lower levels, which wasn't ideal for Tara.
"I feel like that's a project, to figure out how to babyproof!" Tara said.

But overall, the couple were so happy with their new dream home.
"It's amazing, it's everything that we'd hoped for," Tara said.

In Season 1's first episode, California couple Rick and Lorie were searching for the ultimate dream home to spend a portion of their $US180 million ($278m) lotto win on.
That is a lot of money, but that doesn't mean they were keen to throw cash at a mega mansion...

Despite their massive winnings, they budgeted just $1.5 million to $2.5 million for their new house. So after viewing two huge properties within their price range, they baulked at the cost of an epic, mountainside house in Southern California.
But My Lottery Dream Home host David Bromstad was sure Eagle Crest had everything the couple wanted and more, if they could just get past the price tag of $US5.8m ($9m). Surely that's peanuts when you won the jackpot?

The house had a massive, very private entrance with plenty of car space and greenery.
It was 16,000 square feet on 50 acres – so they definitely would not be short on space.
"It's a little more than we wanted to spend," Lorie said, hesitently.

Once inside, the couple were blown away.
And not just because of the giant bear in the entraceway!
The lodge-style aesthetic was right up their alley, and as a bonus, all the furnishings came with the house as well.

The house had everything they could possibly want, with five bedrooms, eight bathrooms, six garages, a pool room, gym, jacuzzi and self-contained apartment Lorie's dad could live in.
There was no need for a butler's pantry with double everything in this kitchen; four ovens, a trash compacter, warmer and cooler drawers and a huge pull-out spice rack.
