Aussie comedian Judith Lucy has posted a candid “farewell” to her breasts as she prepares for a double mastectomy after being diagnosed with cancer.

“Today I say goodbye to my breasts,” the 58-year-old wrote alongside an old photo of herself in a black top with the words “So long ladies!” written across it.

“Sure, I regret that a few too many dips—s saw them over the years but apart from that it’s been a helluva ride!” Lucy said.

“People don’t yell out, ‘Show us your tits’ at comedy gigs anymore but they sure did when I was starting out. Or maybe they just said it to me because who can blame them?”

The comedian said the photo was almost 29 years old, joking: “Jesus, if someone had thrown me in a pool, I wouldn’t have needed Floaties.”

Last week Lucy shared a photo of herself in hospital, revealing she had suffered a head injury after combining sleeping pills and alcohol while “coping” with the diagnosis.

The accident, which happened nine days after she received the news, left her with a cut to her temple and a bruised eye.

“So I wanted to own the fact that while I’m currently doing okay with the cancer situation (I have no doubt that the roller coaster of emotions will continue) this is a photo from an ‘event’ that happened nine days after my diagnosis,” the star captioned the post.

“It looks a little like my doctor said, ‘You have cancer’, and then I decided to punch myself in the face.”

The comedian announced her breast cancer diagnosis on October 6, telling fans the disease had been caught during a routine mammogram.

When Lucy revealed she’d been diagnosed with cancer, she confirmed she needed to undergo a double mastectomy.  Instagram/@Judithlucy

She said the cancer was in its early stages and was non-aggressive, but more cancer was discovered after she underwent a lumpectomy.

As a result, Lucy was told she would need a mastectomy and decided to have both breasts removed.

“So we have gone from a lumpectomy to a mastectomy on Friday week. I said, ‘While you’re there, let’s get rid of the other one’,” she said at the time.

Lucy has continued to urge women to keep up with their breast screenings, explaining that her cancer could not be felt.

“You can’t feel my cancer so without a mammogram, I would have been screwed!” she wrote.

Lucy is a stand-up comedian, author, actor and media personality.
