Golden Globe nominee Jamie Dornan is "very excited" to be back for Season 2 of The Tourist, but its return was far from expected.

The Stan Original Series, which began as a six-part Aussie thriller, captured a fan following thanks to its shocking plot twists, intense action and off-beat humour.

It has now returned for a highly-anticipated second series, which can you watch exclusively on Stan.

"It wasn't always an intention to do a second season," Jamie revealed to 9Entertainment.

"If I think back to the start of The Tourist, I wouldn't believe it if I'd been told I'd be sitting here promoting a second series, that wasn't in Australia," he continued.

"It's all a bit unique and weird."

Set against the striking backdrop of Ireland, Jamie Dornan (Belfast, The Fall) resumes his role as Elliot Stanley, a man looking to rediscover his true identity following his mysterious memory loss.

Joining the Hollywood actor is Australia's own Danielle Macdonald as Helen, as they attempt to uncover the secrets of Elliot's past, along with a new raft of friends and foes.

Safe to say, they've had a blast.

"I don't think I ever have laughed so much on a set," said Danielle, who this time around is filming in Jamie's home country as opposed to the harsh Australian backdrop of Season 1.

"Everyone was just down for a good time because you're dealing with quite difficult content at times, so it was nice we could always keep it light, keep it fun – and that we did."

Jamie recalled one particularly "horrific" but memorable moment while filming.

"We saw a lot of beautiful parts of Ireland," Jamie began.

"You went off the set" Danielle interrupted.

"You asked for a good memory but at the time was horrific," he continued.

"I drove for four and half hours across the entire breadth of the country, slept for about three hours, and got up because we needed first light the next morning," he remembered.

Danielle chimed in: "You guys just all jumped in the ocean after."

Jamie responded: "I said we're not coming all the way to Keem Bay, which is the most photographed beach in Ireland... So I did go for a wild swim and it was the clearest water.

"We got to see another totally, beautifully weird side of Ireland and it's as beautiful as Ireland gets, really."

As beautiful as Ireland is, there is one thing Jamie missed about filming in Australia and it comes in the form of his favourite delicacy.

"Chicken Crimpy Shapes," he said of his newest "obsession".

"Dani's flown in today from Sydney and she's bought me four boxes of Chicken Crimpy Shapes so I'm delighted," he laughed.

What about his love for TimTams?

"There is a shop near where we live in Richmond that I find do sell TimTams so I'm covered for that but they don't taste the same," he revealed.

"It's like they use different chocolate. But those caramel TimTams are the bomb."
