The Devil Wears Prada cast: Then and now
It's been 18 years since Miranda Priestly graced our screens with memorable one-liners and iconic fashion statements.
The Devil Wears Prada, a film based on a book written by Lauren Weisberger, was critically acclaimed and earned several award nominations, including Meryl Streep's Oscar nod for Best Lead Actress.
Now, in happy news for fans, a sequel is in the works, with Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt reportedly on board.
While we wait for more details, let's take a look back at the cast of the original film is up to now.
Meryl Streep: Now
Meryl Streep has maintained her Hollywood icon status in the years since, going from strength to strength.
Reflecting on her lead role in The Devil Wears Prada, she admitted it wasn't fun playing the mean boss.
"It was horrible! I was [miserable] in my trailer. I could hear them all rocking and laughing," she told Entertainment Weekly.
"I was so depressed! I said, 'Well, it's the price you pay for being boss!'
"That's the last time I ever attempted a Method thing!"
In recent years, Streep has reprised her role as Mary Louise Wright in Season 2 of Big Little Lies, which aired in 2019, and had a starring role in TV series Only Murders in the Building.
As for films, she has starred in Little Women (2019), The Laundromat (2020), The Prom (2020), Let Them All Talk (2020) and Don't Look Up (2021).
Anne Hathaway: Now
Hathaway later revealed she had to fight to land her part as Andy.
"I was the ninth choice for Devil Wears Prada," she said during an appearance on RuPaul's Drag Race. "But I got it! Hang in there, never give up!"
Rachel McAdams was in fact the first choice for the role, but she turned it down. Juliette Lewis and Claire Danes also auditioned for the part.
Hathaway has starred in a series of hits since The Devil Wears Prada, including Bride Wars (2009), Les Misérables (2012) and The Witches (2020).
She also played the role of Linda in the pandemic film Locked Down, released in 2021 and in the sci-fi series Solos.
Her most recent movies are The Idea of You and Mothers' Instinct.
Stanley Tucci as Nigel Kipling: Then
Nigel Kipling, played by Stanley Tucci, was the art director of Runway magazine and close confidant of Miranda.
Working under Miranda for 18 years, he gave Andy a stylish makeover after raiding the office's fashion closet.
Tucci's character was based off the late André Leon Talley, former creative director at Vogue.
Talley, who died at age 73 in January 2022, was a fashion trailblazer who spent more than 30 years at the magazine.
The fashion mogul previously spoke about how he refused to be involved with the production of The Devil Wears Prada, which was inspired by Vogue and its editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
"Anna Wintour would never walk in and throw down her coat and handbag on a desk. No," Talley told People in 2020.
"Someone called me and said, 'Would you come and audition?' And I said, 'No! Goodbye'. They got so many things wrong."
Emily Blunt: Now
For Blunt, The Devil Wears Prada was a breakthrough in her career.
Interestingly, in a 2018 interview the actress said she didn't think a sequel would be a good idea.
"If everyone did it I would be up for it," she told People at the time.
"I almost hope it doesn't [happen] because I think sometimes when you sequel everything kind of dilutes how special the original is."
Blunt has starred in plenty of huge movies since the 2006 hit, including The Young Victoria, Looper, Edge of Tomorrow, Into the Woods, The Girl on the Train, Mary Poppins Returns and Oppenheimer, which scored her an Oscar nomination.
She also teamed up with her husband, John Krasinski, for A Quiet Place and its sequel, both of which he directed.
Blunt and Krasinki, who married in 2010, also share two daughters, Violet and Hazel.
