Sylvia Jeffreys announces she's pregnant, expecting second child with Peter Stefanovic

Sylvia Jeffreys has announced she is pregnant with her second child.

The Today Extra host, 34, shared the exciting news on Instagram on Saturday, posting a photo of her husband Peter Stefanovic, 38, and their eight-month-old son, Oscar.

"When you find out you're getting a best bud for life. Oscar's little brother due in April next year," the Nine journalist wrote. "We are so lucky."

Jeffreys is due in April 2021, meaning she is approximately 14 weeks along.

The couple, who married in 2017, welcomed Oscar in February 2020.

Jeffreys took five months of maternity leave following Oscar's birth, returning to the Today Extra desk in late July.

During the week Jeffreys revealed Oscar had been conceived via IVF, however it isn't known if her second pregnancy is the result of fertility treatment.

In an on-air discussion with Nine.com.au's Brooke Campbell on Wednesday about unused embryos — and the dilemma they can pose to parents who no longer need them — Jeffreys revealed the topic had personal significance.

"I know from my own personal experience of IVF that so much goes into having a successful embryo and having something sitting there that gives you the opportunity to make life for your family," she said, tearing up as she spoke.

"There's such an emotional attachment to those embryos, long before they become the baby or the child that you grow to love."

Oscar is close to his cousin Harper, born to Karl and Jasmine Stefanovic in May. The in-laws and colleagues regularly share photos of the babies playing together.
